About The Position

The position of the Afterschool Program (ASP) Specialist will be responsible for the planning and implementation of various activities and services for Elementary School-aged youth at the Bryant Elementary School Beacon. The Specialist position supports key focus areas to be identified based on the specific school needs (i.e. Student Leadership, ELL & Newcomer support, or Academic/STEM). This position will work under the guidance of the Program Manager and/or Director, and this individual will be expected to deliver high-quality support to the students and perform projects as assigned. This position supports the overall goals of the program which are: to foster a positive culture and climate on campus, to promote the development of a growth mindset and lifelong learning, to encourage positive cultural identity formation, and to help students achieve emotional wellness, resiliency, and leadership skills.

Requirements

  • 2 years' experience working with and supervising youth
  • High school diploma or equivalent AND passed SFUSD District Instructional Aide Exam; OR High school diploma or equivalent AND passed CBEST; OR High school diploma or equivalent AND 48 college units (official transcripts required); OR associate degree or higher.
  • Must complete a full background check (Department of Justice, FBI, Child Abuse Index) after conditional offer is made.
  • Must have TB clearance
  • Requires a valid California Driver’s License and clean driving record
  • Must complete and maintain current California Mandated Reporter Training certification, in compliance with California state law.

Nice To Haves

  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred
  • Bilingual (Spanish and English) preferred
  • Well versed in Youth Development Best Practices and the implementation of those practices
  • Understanding of youth development, equity, cultural and community-based work
  • Experience working in schools and with diverse communities

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate activities and provide supervision for students in the program
  • Be actively engaged with children in the program daily
  • Develop curriculum and maintain lesson plans utilizing youth development best practices.
  • Attend mandatory staff, supervision and other designated meetings
  • Promote program and develop positive relationships with students and their families
  • Maintain a clean, fun, and engaging environment
  • Uphold and enforce all safety policies and procedures
  • Perform administrative tasks such as record keeping, outreach and program promotion as assigned
  • Create, collaborate, and foster relationships with school staff.
  • Ensure that activities and services are aligned with Good Samaritan’s Mission and Vision
  • Ability to promote, maintain, and contribute consistently to a positive work culture and team environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and respect in communication in all situations and with all stakeholders (participants, staff, parents, teachers, etc.)
  • Ability to be flexible and responsive to a variety of student and programmatic needs
  • Serve as chaperone on field trips as needed
  • Other job-related duties as assigned by the Program Manager and/or Beacon Director
  • Represents and advances GSFRC’s mission, values, and culture.
  • Participates in scheduled Good Samaritan Team meetings and agency events as needed.
  • Participates in GSFRC fundraising events and other key organizational events, as needed.
  • Represents the mission and vision of GSFRC at city-wide cohorts, meetings, and committees
  • Serves as a positive, solution-oriented team member of GSFRC Bryant Elementary Beacon Site.
  • Attends and participates in regular staff and supervision meetings.
  • Ensures accurate, complete, and timely time punches to track time and preparation of HR documentation as requested
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Beacon Director.
