About The Position
This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) ASOSU Veteran & Military Students Advocacy Coordinator for the ASOSU at Oregon State University (OSU). The ASOSU Veteran & Military Students Advocacy Coordinator serves on the ASOSU President’s Diversity Team to advocate for veteran and military students and identify issues affecting students belonging to these communities. The Veteran & Military Students Advocacy Coordinator will work closely with other members of the ASOSU Executive Branch and the Diversity Team to develop community-based initiatives and programs to raise awareness, highlight resources, and engage the student body with the identified issues related to veteran and military students. The Undergraduate Student Support Services Worker performs a variety of work related to the support and enhancement of the quality of student life at the university.
Requirements
- Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
- Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
- Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
- High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
- Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
- Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term
- Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
- Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term
- Maintenance of good academic and conduct standing and a cumulative and prior term 2.0 GPA
- Commitment to promoting and advancing diversity and creating an atmosphere of inclusion for all students and community members
- Communication skills in areas including but not limited to interpersonal, public speaking, digital, verbal, and written communications
- Organizational skills, including managing time and working accurately with interruptions to meet a deadline; delegating tasks, when applicable
- Working well under pressure, exercising flexibility, initiative, good judgment, and discretion

Responsibilities
- Create and develop intersectional, collaborative programs and initiatives pertaining to veteran and military students and issues impacting these communities
- Attend on-campus programs and events that are relevant to veteran and military students when applicable and able
- Attend regular events and programming by the Student Veteran Association (SVA) and the Military and Veteran Resource Center (MVRC) when applicable and able
- Collaborate with the SVA, MVRC, and other student veterans’ organizations to advocate policies and support programming related to the interests of student veterans
- Maintain productive relationships between the student government and SVA, MVRC, and other student veterans’ organizations
- Identify opportunities for collaboration across university offices and student organizations to provide support and promote an inclusive learning environment for veteran and military students
- Create and partner on programming and awareness for Veterans Day and Memorial Day
- Foster relationships with veteran and military student organizations and communities, and seek to collaborate with members of the student government to ensure better understanding of the impact of student government and University policies on the student body
- Provide resources for veteran and military students and their families and associates, to interact with the student government and learn more about campus services
- Collaborate with University institutions and student organizations to advocate policies and support programming related to the interests of veteran and military students
- Identify areas of funding deficiencies in relation to veteran and military student affairs and advocate for greater funding in those areas, as needed
- Work with the ASOSU Policy Team on issues and policies concerning veteran and military students in higher education
- Advocate to create a safe, open, and inclusive environment for veteran and military students
- Facilitate the gathering of information, tracking legislation, and conducting research on issues and policies concerning veteran and military student issues
- Identify and develop areas of involvement in veteran & military student affairs in which the ASOSU Executive Branch should engage itself
