About The Position

The ASME Floor Inspector is a professional who is responsible for ensuring that manufactured pressure vessels and components comply with all requirements, particularly ASME codes. They perform in-process and final inspections, manage non-conformances, and maintain quality documents to ensure that products have been perfectly crafted and are ready for customers.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in pressure vessel fabrication and inspection
  • Strong working knowledge of: ASME Section VIII, Div. 1 & 2, NBIC requirements, ASME B31.3 Piping
  • Proven ability to read and interpret: P&IDs, Isometric drawings, Fabrication drawings and weld maps
  • Experience with NDE methods and acceptance criteria
  • Familiarity with quality systems (ISO 9001 or similar)
  • Strong documentation and reporting skills
  • Ability to work independently and make code-based decisions
  • Deep understanding of code compliance and regulatory requirements
  • High attention to detail and documentation accuracy
  • Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills
  • Leadership in quality culture and continuous improvement
  • Effective cross-functional communication

Nice To Haves

  • ASME fabrication direct floor experience
  • Experience with high-pressure systems (e.g., 10,000–15,000 psi)
  • ERP/QMS system experience (Sage, SAP, Oracle, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Perform in-process and final inspections of pressure vessels in accordance with ASME Section VIII, Div. 1 & 2
  • Read blueprints, procedures, and instructions to comprehend the quality expectations for the product and supplies
  • Interpret and verify Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) to ensure system accuracy and compliance
  • Conduct dimensional, visual, and documentation inspections throughout fabrication lifecycle
  • Verify material traceability, MTRs, and heat numbers against project specifications
  • Perform and document inspections related to: Layout, Fit-up and joint preparation, Welding activities, Hydrostatic and pneumatic testing, Final weld quality
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (ASME, API, NBIC, customer specifications)
  • Maintain and compile all related project and turnover documentation packages
  • Support internal audits and external code audits
  • Identify non-conformances and drive corrective/preventive actions (CAPA)
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, and QC teams to resolve quality issues
  • Work efficiently and positively with teammates and shop floor employees.
  • Stop work when something is wrong or unsafe.
