About The Position

CLFC Healthcare & Communications is building a premier team of ASL interpreters across Maryland to support federal and state government language access programs. We offer competitive hourly rates that reflect your certification and expertise, consistent assignments with established government agencies, and a support infrastructure that handles credentialing, scheduling, and invoicing so you can focus entirely on interpreting. CLFC controls the bill rate on this contract, meaning we set the terms, and we pass the value to our interpreters. This role involves providing professional American Sign Language interpretation across a range of government settings, ensuring Deaf and hard-of-hearing community members have full and equal access to federal agencies, state offices, healthcare facilities, legal proceedings, and public services.

Requirements

  • Active RID certification (NIC, CI, CT, CDI, or equivalent national certification)
  • Minimum 2 years of professional ASL interpreting experience
  • Reliable transportation to assignment locations throughout Maryland and the DMV metro area
  • Must pass background check for government facility access
  • Professional liability insurance (or willingness to obtain)

Nice To Haves

  • Maryland state licensure or registration for interpreters
  • Legal interpreting certification (SC:L) or specialized legal/medical training
  • CDI credential for Deaf interpreter team assignments
  • Experience with federal or state government interpreting protocols
  • Familiarity with the Maryland/DC Deaf community and regional signing styles
  • Medical interpreting experience in hospital or clinical settings

Responsibilities

  • Provide ASL interpretation for federal government offices, hearings, and constituent services across the Baltimore-Washington corridor
  • Support Maryland state agency appointments, administrative proceedings, and public meetings
  • Facilitate communication in medical settings, mental health services, and rehabilitation programs
  • Support court proceedings, depositions, administrative hearings, and immigration services
  • Ensure Deaf and hard-of-hearing residents can fully participate in public forums, educational programs, and civic engagement
  • Maintain strict adherence to RID Code of Professional Conduct, confidentiality requirements, and government security protocols
