About The Position

To facilitate the production of vacuum melted ingots from mold preparation to shipping finished ingots. To assist vacuum furnace operators in the master melt process. To take part in the preparation and pouring of ingots as well as associated foundry tasks. To complete ingot stripping, grinding, blasting, inspection using Robotics work cell or manual method. To prepare shipments of finished ingot to the end user. Works in one or more of the following accountability areas.

Requirements

  • Ability to follow instructions, read, write and perform arithmetic calculations.
  • Ability to lift and/or maneuver objects weighing thirty to fifty pounds.
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Ability to work in difficult working conditions which may include exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, temperature extremes, molten metal and other elements for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to safely maneuver heavy loads with overhead cranes/hoists.
  • Training is provided on the job.
  • PCC's Fork Lift Driving Safety Certification Training must be completed.
  • Basic computer training may be required.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with overhead cranes/hoists and automated equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects and delivers metal ingot molds to furnace areas.
  • Cleans, inspects, and inserts graphite plugs into ingot molds.
  • Operates and corrects robot deficiencies and product flow problems as needed.
  • Loads and unloads ingot molds and mold racks using fork lift truck and overhead cranes and hoists.
  • Removes from molds, cleans, inspects, type checks, weighs and ships vacuum melted ingots.
  • May load melting pots with metals.
  • Completes paperwork and logs.
  • Type checks ingots using hand held analyzer.
  • Blasts, grinds, and marks ingots for shipping.
  • Type checks, bags, and prepares ingots for shipping.
  • Inspects, sets up and operates MM mold racks.
  • May run conveyor system to assist in pouring ingots in both Master Melt furnaces.
  • Observes ingot casting process via window and/or video.
  • Knocks MM ingots from molds; cleans molds and cuts ingots as required.
  • Operates robotic work cell and related equipment.
  • Puts insulating material on top of molds to maintain molten status.
  • Delivers properly identified ingots for cleaning.
  • Provides minor maintenance and troubleshoots equipment problems.
  • Cleans furnaces, robots, blasting unit and supporting equipment.
  • Adheres to plant and department safety rules.
  • Safely operates all equipment and tools.
  • Identifies and reports safety problems.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned.
