About The Position

Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) is seeking an Asbestos Abatement Coordinator. This is a full-time, direct hire position located in Los Angeles, CA. The role requires a strong background in environmental assessment and abatement, with specific certifications and experience in asbestos and lead management. The position is in-person and requires the candidate to be located in Southern California. No relocation funds or per diem will be offered.

Requirements

• Authorization to work lawfully in the US without sponsorship from Simplex.
• Must be located in Southern California.
• Five (5) years full time paid professional construction experience on projects involving environmental (asbestos/lead) assessment, sampling, design, monitoring and abatement
• OR 2 years full time paid professional construction experience on projects involving environmental (asbestos/lead) assessment, sampling, design, monitoring, and abatement PLUS a Certification from the State of CA as Certified Site Surveillance Technician (CSST)
• OR Certification from the State of CA as Certified Asbestos Consultant
• Possession of Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA), asbestos course certificates (Building Inspector, Management Planner, Contractor/Supervisor and Project Designer)
• Possession of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) Certification
• Possession of CA Department of Health (CDPH) Lead certification (Inspector/Assessor/Project Monitor)
• Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor’s degree in engineering or any related field
• OR Candidates without a degree must have additional years of experience to compensate for education on a year-for-year basis.

Responsibilities

• Oversee asbestos abatement projects.
• Conduct environmental (asbestos/lead) assessment, sampling, design, monitoring, and abatement.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and certifications.
