About The Position

Since 1985, Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless has dedicated its mission exclusively to providing services to people experiencing homelessness. AHCH provides a distinctive continuum of integrated care through outreach and site-based services to address the health-related causes and consequences of homelessness. Our vision is to live in a world that is just and without homelessness. We believe that homelessness is an issue that can be solved through access to quality health care, adequate and affordable housing, and a living wage. We are looking for a dynamic candidate to run our ArtStreet program. Our ideal candidate would be an experienced art therapist who has a passion for working with the underserved. We are looking for someone who is well versed in running group therapy as well as working in open access therapeutic environments. Our ideal candidate would be comfortable working with a diverse population and working both independently as well as on integrated teams. The candidate would be comfortable working both in our art studio and in outreach settings.

Requirements

  • Ability to thrive in a complex non-profit healthcare setting.
  • Ability to work with peers to lead change, high performance, and innovation.
  • Comfort in facilitating community artmaking and experience with diverse art materials.
  • Knowledge of the therapeutic use of a broad range of art materials and their impact on behaviors.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to make art with diverse groups of individuals.
  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, or Psychology.
  • 3 years of experience working in arts organization and/or social services/behavioral health field.
  • Experience using art as a treatment modality.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Art Therapy
  • Licensed to practice in the state of New Mexico with one of the following licenses: LCSW, LMSW, LPCC, LMHC, LMFT, or LPAT
  • Experience working with people experiencing chronic mental illness and/or substance use.
  • Experience in program design and development.
  • Experience working with underserved populations.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English

Responsibilities

  • Manages and coordinates all aspects of community-based open art studio including oversite of staff, student interns, and volunteers.
  • Conducts group and individual Art Therapy sessions within AHCH’s behavioral health program.
  • Provides closed art therapy groups, individual art and behavioral health interventions within the art studio setting.
  • May develop and conduct art-based activities on outreach within the Bernalillo County service area.
  • Monitors day-to-day operations of the ArtStreet program including the work, activities, and scheduling of the ArtStreet team.
  • Provides coaching and professional development to ArtStreet team including conducting regular performance reviews.
  • Coordinates the program’s reporting systems to ensure reports, statistical information, and program evaluation activities are implemented in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Assists in the development of ArtStreet artists toward their professional art goals.
  • Represents AHCH in meetings with donors, funders, local community organizations, and other group forums.
  • Facilitates monthly ArtStreet Advisory Council meetings and ensures artists are represented in larger AHCH forums, including Board of Directors.
  • Networks with community artists and galleries to promote ArtStreet artists and open pathways to show their work.
  • Participates in installation and take-down of art shows by ArtStreet artists and participates in sales of ArtStreet at a variety of venues.
  • Monitors all electronic/mechanical tools and supplies in the ArtStreet studio including kilns, power tools, and sewing machines to ensure safe operation.
  • Works with Facilities Manager to ensure OSHA compliance in the ArtStreet studio.
  • Attends Manager/Coordinators meetings.
  • Complies with all AHCH policies and procedures.
  • Maintains appropriate license and board requirements.
