About The Position

The Arts & Crafts Instructor plans, instructs, and leads members in arts and crafts classes, ensuring the proper maintenance and use of equipment and supplies. The instructor answers members’ questions about the RJKCCC and promotes repeat attendance and participation in other activities.

The position is part-time, scheduled for two days and eight hours per week. Work takes place in a normal community center environment, with little or no physical discomfort associated with weather, noise, dust, or dirt. The instructor must be able to lead demonstrations in front of a large audience and stand for extended periods.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED and two years of experience performing and/or leading arts and crafts projects, or an equivalent combination of training and experience providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• First Aid Certification.
• Ability to meet attendance requirements.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
• Ability to perform in front of a large audience.
• Ability to stand for extended periods while leading or performing an arts and crafts demonstration.

Responsibilities

• Instruct members in the fundamentals of arts and crafts, including pottery, painting, drawing, and ceramics.
• Conduct classes, demonstrate proper techniques, and support member involvement and desired outcomes.
• Maintain order and control among members participating in activities.
• Keep the arts and crafts area and supplies clean and free from debris.
• Identify potential hazards and respond appropriately and promptly.
• Assist the supervisor in assessing the need for additional classes or rescheduling daily activities, and ensure the activity schedule matches member expectations.
• Provide excellent, courteous customer service; maintain awareness of and promote other activities; and encourage continued attendance.
• Ensure proper maintenance and use of equipment and supplies.
• Answer members’ questions about the RJKCCC.
