The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory’s AI Group, within the Research and Exploratory Development Department, seeks undergraduate and graduate students for a summer internship. The group works to close the gap between frontier models and sponsors’ expectations for an AI-dominated future. Its research includes improving behavioral alignment of AI agents for human-machine teaming and wargaming, training multimodal foundation models on language and sensor data, developing intelligent robots that use agentic AI, assessing and addressing vulnerabilities in frontier models, and mission-driven testing and evaluation of novel research. Interns will work on one or two projects, primarily helping train and evaluate frontier AI models and applications. They will be exposed to interdisciplinary research and have access to experts in the field. Interns may have the opportunity to publish their work if the results are particularly impactful.
