About The Position

SimIS, Inc. seeks an AI Subject Matter Expert to provide Systems Engineering and technical assistance (SETA) support to the Test and Evaluation Science and Technology (T&E/S&T) Program, the Department's only S&T program dedicated to advancing DoD Test Range capabilities in support of AI and machine learning-enabled systems. This role evaluates machine learning model performance and robustness ahead of fielding decisions, advises on test methodologies for emerging AI capabilities, and supports investment strategy across DoD AI standards, DoD cloud, AI-enabled technologies, autonomy and robotics, and machine learning grounded in DoD warfighting missions and business functions.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or ten (10) years of relevant experience.
  • Degree field: Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field, with specialization in robotics/autonomy, automatic target recognition, machine learning, system architecture, AI testing, or machine vision.
  • Experience with DoD S&T, DoD Acquisition, or DoD testing.
  • Familiarity with Major Range and Test Facility Base (MRTFB).
  • Familiarity with Central Test and Evaluation Investment Program (CTEIP).
  • Familiarity with the T&E Science and Technology (S&T) Program.
  • Demonstrated depth of knowledge in robotics/autonomy, automatic target recognition, machine learning, system architecture, AI testing, or machine vision.
  • Hands-on experience developing or programming machine learning algorithms.
  • Broad knowledge of technologies relevant to one or more T&E/S&T Test Technology Areas.
  • Familiarity with the Systems Engineering process.

Nice To Haves

  • PhD desired.
  • DAU Systems Engineering certification desired.
  • Experience within the NCR region, TRMC, or a high-level DoD/Service test range, S&T organization, or with S&T leadership.
  • Publications, patents, or competition results in machine learning, autonomy, or robotics (e.g., DARPA challenges, peer-reviewed research).
  • Experience with adversarial machine learning, model robustness testing, or T&E specifically focused on AI-enabled systems.
  • DAU certification in Test and Evaluation (T&E), in addition to Systems Engineering.
  • Experience evaluating or fielding autonomous systems in an operational or test environment.
