About The Position

The artificial intelligence (AI) in teaching and learning specialist works in partnership with academic leaders, educators, and technical staff to identify needs, design learning resources, and provide education and curriculum development related to AI in teaching and learning. This position plays a key role in identifying, supporting, and implementing generative AI in curriculum, teaching and learning pilots, and in supporting evaluation and dissemination of impacts. The specialist provides professional development for faculty with emphasis on generative AI, and works with students, faculty, staff, and administrators across academic and administrative units.

Requirements

  • A master’s degree in education, curriculum studies, educational technology, or other relevant field; a doctoral degree is preferred
  • Minimum of one year of experience supporting professional learning or faculty development in higher education or kindergarten to grade 12
  • Comprehensive understanding of teaching and learning principles in higher education, including course design, assessment, inclusive instructional strategies, and reflective practice
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to build relationships and work effectively and collaboratively with a variety of internal stakeholders within a diverse and complex environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a high level of professionalism
  • Proficient with generative AI tools, with the ability to leverage them to support and enhance teaching and learning
  • Proficient with educational technologies and digital tools with the ability to leverage technology to increase effectiveness and quality of work

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting educators in the use of generative AI is preferred
  • Understanding of, or experience with, Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL), including evaluation of educational innovations and dissemination of findings, is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates course and program development work, in partnership with academic leaders, focused on the integration of AI into curriculum and learning design
  • Develops and delivers formal and informal curriculum and faculty professional development for programs and courses, with particular emphasis on generative AI
  • Researches, plans, and designs innovative services, pilots and programs, integrating Canadian and international leading practices and scholarship in alignment with the university’s AI frameworks, principles and guidelines
  • Collaborates effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders on teaching and learning initiatives and pilots, including consultations, committee participation, and partnership development
  • Conducts and supports ongoing program and project assessment and evaluation, including guiding educators in investigating the effectiveness and impact of AI‑enabled teaching and learning innovations, and to inform continuous improvement
  • Recruits, supervises, mentors, and plans workflow for graduate students and other contributing personnel to support teaching, course development, or instructional resource creation projects
  • Engages in continuous professional development and reflection to adapt to emerging needs and maintain expertise in the use of AI in curriculum, teaching and learning
  • Communicates and acts in a respectful and professional manner, collaborates effectively, abides by policy, contributes to a positive and productive work and learning environment, and models these behaviours across the institution
  • Engages in continuous learning by participating in activities, training, and events related to Indigenous engagement, reconciliation, equity, diversity, and inclusion
  • Demonstrates respect and dignity for all members of the community, actively contributes to an environment of acceptance and inclusion of others, and responds to different perspectives from a place of curiosity, respect, and non-judgement
