About The Position

GSI Environmental Inc. (GSI) seeks a highly innovative AI Engineer to join our growing team and help shape how artificial intelligence, automation, and modern business systems operate within the firm. In this role, you will design and deliver AI-powered applications, automations, dashboards, and data-driven tools that boost productivity across the organization. You'll partner closely with both technical project teams and corporate departments to identify where emerging technology can simplify workflows, sharpen decision-making, and eliminate repetitive manual tasks. This role offers a unique opportunity to build a function from the ground up, leveraging AI to address complex environmental challenges. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Ability to develop software applications, automation tools, business intelligence solutions, or AI-enabled technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with Generative AI, LLMs, AI agents, or machine learning technologies.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, SQL, JavaScript, C#, or similar languages.
  • Experience building dashboards and analytics with Power BI, Tableau, or comparable platforms.
  • Experience integrating systems via APIs, databases, and cloud technologies.
  • Strong grasp of data architecture, security, governance, and software development best practices.
  • Proven ability to translate complex business problems into practical technology solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Microsoft Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI) or similar low-code tools.
  • Experience building LLM/RAG applications, document automation, or AI assistants for knowledge work.
  • A passion for continuous learning and staying current with rapidly evolving AI technologies.
  • A passion for the environment is a strong plus!

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and deploy AI-powered applications, assistants, and workflows that solve real business and environmental problems.
  • Develop custom internal software, portals, and applications that improve operational efficiency.
  • Evaluate new AI platforms, large language models (LLMs), and automation technologies, and rapidly prototype high-value use cases.
  • Build dashboards and business intelligence tools that deliver actionable insight to leadership and project teams.
  • Integrate business and technical systems through APIs, databases, and cloud services.
  • Support data management, reporting, and analytics initiatives—including work with scientific, financial, and regulatory data.
  • Create automated workflows that reduce manual effort and streamline business processes.
  • Train and support employees in adopting new AI tools, and champion a culture of practical, responsible AI use.
  • Develop AI governance standards and best practices that ensure secure, ethical, and responsible use of emerging technologies.
  • Partner with IT and leadership to establish a long-term technology and innovation roadmap.
