About The Position

The Art Therapist will serve as a member of the clinical team who is responsible for supporting patients by providing developmentally appropriate art therapy interventions. Art Therapy will focus on building / rebuilding positive coping skills and providing emotional support to patients. The Art Therapist will provide patients with intensive therapeutic services using the arts as a primary modality. The Art Therapist plans, organizes and directs are therapy activities. Art Therapists collaborate with other members of the clinical team in planning art activities in accordance with patients' physical or psychological needs, capabilities, and interests.

Requirements

  • Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Attends all assigned training and meetings
  • Demonstrates competency and sensitivity in the area of multi-cultural, racial, religious/spiritual, gender identity, and sexual orientation issues.
  • Evaluates own performance and sees opportunity for growth.
  • Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
  • Complies with all organizational policies.
  • Master's Degree from accredited program
  • Licensed as an ATR or ATR-BC (national or board certified art therapy credential)
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels with patients, peers and manager.
  • Follows all procedures and protocols for patient care and documentation.
  • Exercises good judgement regarding interpersonal interactions with patients, peers and manager.
  • Facility with MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and other basic office software.
  • Works with team; builds and fosters professional relationships.
  • Welcomes feedback; proactively offers suggestions.
  • Works independently; schedules time efficiently; thinks proactively.

Nice To Haves

  • 3-5 years of experience in art therapy, preferred
  • Experience with Eating Disorders, preferred
  • Working knowledge of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy preferred

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, and directs art therapy activities.
  • Collaborates with other members of the clinical team in planning art activities in accordance with patients' physical or psychological needs, capabilities, and interests.
  • Meets with patients in groups.
  • Maintains written documentation of sessions.
  • Maintains appropriate art supplies for level of acuity and patient needs.
  • Facilitates a variety of groups that promote development, self-expression, and mastery.
  • Evaluates emotional, social, mental, and physical conditions of patients utilizing therapeutic interventions and assessments.
  • Selects, adapts, and/or adjusts art modalities in accordance with recovery goals, as well as sensory and/or safety needs.
  • Maintains cleanliness of the art room and is responsible for monitoring patient safety around art supplies in the art room including putting safety measures in place when patients leave the art room.
  • Other duties, as assigned.
