About The Position

The Art Teacher is responsible for planning, organizing, and presenting instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development. This role involves managing instructional time, student behavior, instructional presentation, monitoring student performance, providing feedback, facilitating instruction, and interacting effectively within the educational environment. The teacher will also perform non-instructional duties as assigned and adhere to established laws, policies, rules, and regulations, while also following a plan for professional development and demonstrating growth.

Requirements

  • Degree in education or a related area that qualifies for licensure as a teacher by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
  • Ability to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools such as computers, copiers, typewriters, calculators, pencils, scissors, and equipment for children with special needs.
  • Ability to exert a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • Physical requirements consistent with Light Work due to amount of time spent standing and/or walking.
  • Ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or composite characteristics of data, people or things.
  • Ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information, including receiving instructions, assignments and/or directions from superiors.
  • Ability to read a variety of correspondence, reports, handbooks, forms, lists, etc.
  • Ability to prepare correspondence, simple reports, forms, instructional materials, etc., using a prescribed format.
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; to interpret extensive technical instructions; and to deal with abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to record and deliver information, explain procedures, and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently in a variety of technical or professional languages.
  • Ability to utilize mathematical formulas; add, subtract, multiply, and divide; utilize decimals and percentages; and apply principles of descriptive statistics, statistical inference and statistical theory.
  • Ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape.
  • Ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using office equipment.
  • Ability to handle a variety of items such as office equipment and hand tools.
  • Minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Manage instructional time by having materials, supplies, and equipment ready, starting lessons quickly, getting students on task, and maintaining a high level of student time-on-task.
  • Manage student behavior by establishing clear rules and procedures for routine matters, student participation, and movement within the classroom. Monitor behavior, stop inappropriate actions promptly and consistently while maintaining student dignity.
  • Present instruction by reviewing previous materials, introducing new lessons and objectives, speaking fluently and precisely, using understandable concepts and language, providing relevant examples and demonstrations, assigning tasks with a high success rate, asking appropriate questions, conducting lessons at a brisk pace, making smooth transitions, ensuring assignments are clear, and summarizing key points.
  • Monitor student performance by maintaining clear work standards, circulating during class work to check performance, using various work products to check progress, and posing questions clearly.
  • Provide instructional feedback on in-class and out-of-class work to encourage student growth, affirming correct responses and providing sustaining feedback after incorrect responses.
  • Facilitate instruction by having an instructional plan compatible with school and system-wide curricular goals, using diagnostic information to develop objectives, maintaining accurate records, aligning objectives with learning strategies and student needs, and using available resources.
  • Interact effectively with students, co-workers, parents, and the community in a fair and equitable manner.
  • Perform non-instructional duties as assigned, adhere to laws and policies, and engage in professional development.
