About The Position

HUB is Hamlin’s afterschool care program, standing for “Hang out, Unwind, Belong.” The HUB program aims to make each student feel welcomed, nourished, and engaged through a mix of structured and unstructured activities. Students can choose from various options like outdoor play, homework assistance, art activities, or quiet reading/gaming. The program typically serves 60-100 students daily and is characterized by its busy, lively, and energetic atmosphere. The ideal candidate will possess the energy to match the students and program dynamics.

Requirements

  • Working towards or possesses a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Passion for and prior experience working with children.
  • Desire and ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Enthusiasm, creativity, warmth, patience, and flexibility.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with staff, students, and parents.
  • Ability to problem-solve and resolve conflicts.
  • Reliability and commitment to a consistent weekly schedule; demonstrated ability to arrive prepared and on time.

Nice To Haves

  • Can work some full days for school break camps (including November 23rd-24th and March 25th-26th).
  • Optional additional hours available: substitute teaching during the school day as well as working special events.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead daily art projects for 15-25 students in grades K-4.
  • Monitor students’ use of supplies, providing appropriate support and intervention.
  • Promote and facilitate compliance with Hamlin health and safety guidelines.
  • Prepare the HUB art room with supplies and equipment for daily programming.
  • Arrive prepared with a weekly curriculum for drop-in student art projects (flexible and subject to change).
  • Oversee the organization of art supplies, monitor inventory levels, and order or prepare shopping lists for material resupply.
  • Provide general supervision of K-4 students in the art room and on the playground during the 30-minute sign-in window after school dismissal.
  • Step in when needed to supervise students in indoor and outdoor play spaces.
  • Work proactively with students to assist individual and group needs.
  • Manage classroom environment and support conflict resolution as needed.
  • Assist with snack and general daily programming goals.
  • Interact with families during student pick-up times.
  • Maintain a clean and organized working environment.
  • Communicate and coordinate with the Extended Day team, providing support as needed.
  • Meet periodically with supervisor for evaluation and feedback.
  • Advocate for the goals of the afterschool program and the school.
  • Model and promote the Hamlin Creed: Compassion, Courage, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility.
  • Create an environment of balance: structured and unstructured choices, work and play.
