About The Position

The art teacher will be responsible for fostering an interest in and the ability to express creatively in visual terms among students. This role involves developing aesthetic understandings, appreciating art and discovering and nurturing students' talents in the field of art, all while adhering to school guidelines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Valid, active, Pennsylvania Instructional I or II required – Art PK-12
  • Full certification in Safe Crisis Management (SCM), or willingness to complete upon hire
  • First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to complete upon hire
  • Ability to motivate students of all ages and skill levels
  • Knowledge of child and adolescent development
  • Strong verbal and written language skills
  • Strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of federal and state special education laws and regulations
  • Ability to build rapport with a variety of stakeholders
  • Proficient computer skills and knowledge including use of Word, Excel, Outlook, and other software as required

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Art, or related field preferred

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement engaging, standards-based lesson plans on various Art content across Student Services locations.
  • Teach knowledge and skills in various art forms, including drawing, painting, lettering, and art history and provide instruction that helps students develop aesthetic concepts and the ability to make qualitative judgments about art.
  • Assess and evaluate student learning, growth, and progress.
  • Create and maintain a safe, positive, inclusive learning environment.
  • Instruct students in the proper care and use of tools and equipment while organizing storage areas to control material use.
  • Collaborate with other teachers and staff members to foster and support student success and school wide initiatives.
  • Provide individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to meet the needs of students with varying intellectual and artistic abilities.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices and trends in Art and related instruction.
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Prepare and maintain current schedules, lesson plans, and other appropriate information/material that are available for supervisory submission, review, and approval.
  • Perform all duties that are building related, including, but not limited to, lunch and recess supervision, bus loading and unloading, and planning and implementation of special programs.
  • Provide a program of individual and appropriate instruction utilizing CAIU Board approved curricula and position behavior supports that meet the needs of students.
  • Select and requisition books, instructional materials, and tools, and maintain required inventory records.
  • Attend and participate in student related and program specific meetings as appropriate and as directed.
  • Complete and maintain all records as required by the program, federal and state regulations, and the CAIU.
  • Develop and maintain a course of study for all students who are working to complete state or district graduation requirements.
  • Assume any other responsibilities as assigned by the Supervisor or his/her designee.
