Art Teacher Grades 1st - 5th
About The Position
Baton Rouge Charter School for students with dyslexia seeks a highly creative art educator to implement the 1st–5th grade art curriculum. The teacher will help students express creativity, build confidence, and develop their unique strengths through artistic experiences, while connecting art with history, literature, culture, and interdisciplinary learning. The role involves collaborating with classroom teachers and school leaders, participating in ongoing professional learning about dyslexia and its impact on learning, and using innovative, multisensory, student-centered teaching practices. The teacher is expected to reflect on and implement feedback, support individualized instruction, and create an inclusive classroom where all students feel successful and valued.
Requirements
- Strong background in visual arts.
- Passion for helping students express creativity, build confidence, and develop their unique strengths through artistic experiences.
- Understanding of how art can connect students with history, literature, culture, and interdisciplinary learning.
- Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively with classroom teachers and school leaders.
- Desire to participate in ongoing professional learning to develop an understanding of dyslexia and its impact on learning.
- Open-minded approach to instruction, including willingness to use innovative, multisensory, and student-centered practices.
- Growth mindset and willingness to receive, reflect upon, and implement instructional feedback.
- Strong classroom management, organization, and student engagement skills.
- Willingness to participate in collaborative planning and cross-curricular instructional opportunities.

Nice To Haves
- Experience working with students with dyslexia, learning differences, or special education needs.
- Experience incorporating project-based learning, cultural studies, art history, or interdisciplinary connections into instruction.
- Louisiana teaching certification in Art Education, or eligibility for certification.
- Experience using a variety of artistic mediums, including drawing, painting, sculpture, mixed media, and digital art.
