About The Position

The Art Teacher plans and delivers engaging visual arts instruction for students in grades 4K–8, fostering creativity and self-expression. The teacher supports students’ artistic development by integrating age-appropriate techniques, art history, and cross-curricular connections. The Art Teacher monitors student progress, activities, and learning outcomes, addressing individual student needs as appropriate. Additionally, the teacher maintains a safe, supportive, and effective learning environment and communicates regularly with students, parents, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, and goals.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required
  • Ability to multi-task and work under minimal supervision
  • Innovative, creative and self-motivated
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience working with elementary and middle school students preferred
  • Cooperative, able to work with supervising teachers and other staff members
  • Skill in interpersonal relations with pupils, parents, teachers, staff and the general public
  • Outstanding references from current and former supervisors
  • Satisfactory SLED (SC Law Enforcement Division) report
  • Must have and maintain a valid Driver’s License or ability to provide own transportation
  • Prior to beginning employment, negative tb test results must be provided
  • Work requires long periods of standing or walking around the classroom, especially when giving instruction, monitoring students, or using whiteboards/projectors.
  • Requires clear verbal communication and strong listening skills to engage with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • May require projecting voice in noisy environments or large classrooms.
  • Managing behavior, supporting diverse student needs, and maintaining classroom engagement.
  • Breaks are limited and structured around school schedules (e.g., lunch, prep periods).
  • Applicants must submit college transcripts, three professional references with at least one supervisory reference and a copy of the appropriate credentials as part of the application process.
  • The recommended candidate will be required to provide personal information necessary to complete the background check such as date of birth, gender, and race to remain in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct students for the purpose of improving their knowledge and skills in art (e.g. crafts, drawing, painting design, etc.) and in the proper use of equipment, tools and/or supplies.
  • Prepares teaching materials for the purpose of implementing lesson plans and documenting student progress.
  • Develops lessons that address grade level and content standards for the purpose of designing engaging work for students.
  • Establish and maintain a safe and structured environment for all activities.
  • Adapt instruction to meet the diverse needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Maintain appropriate student behavior and classroom management in gymnasium, classroom, and outdoor settings
  • Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and parents to support student success.
  • Ensure proper use, care, and inventory of equipment and facilities.
  • Follow all school policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
