About The Position

The Art Studio Coordinator is responsible for managing studio operations, ensuring safety, and supporting faculty and students in the art department. This role involves collaboration with various university departments, supervision of student workers, and maintaining art supplies and equipment. The coordinator will also play a key role in organizing art-related events and workshops, contributing to the vibrant artistic community within the university.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience (3+ years) in studio management and art practices, or a combination of education and experience.
  • At least 1 year of experience training or supervising student workers, interns, or staff.
  • Proficient in the operation and maintenance of studio tools and equipment across traditional and digital media.
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety protocols and RCRA compliance for handling and disposal of studio materials.
  • Ability to perform routine equipment maintenance and repairs.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, track inventory, and coordinate vendor orders.
  • Experience developing studio schedules and maintenance plans to optimize space use.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Demonstrated success in coordinating art events or exhibitions.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of meeting operational deadlines.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills; ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Knowledge of health and safety standards in art studio environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated ability to teach or assist in studio-based or digital media courses.
  • Workshop facilitation experience.
  • MFA or equivalent advanced degree.
  • Experience teaching at the college level.
  • Familiarity with digital arts tools (hardware and software) and processes.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to support curriculum delivery and studio operations.
  • Train and supervise student workers and interns, monitoring their work quality and task completion.
  • Coordinate and support art-related events, exhibitions, and community engagement activities.
  • Manage studio access, scheduling, and operations to maximize utilization and minimize disruptions.
  • Maintain and repair studio equipment, tools, and facilities, liaising with UNE Facilities and vendors.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and proper handling of materials.
  • Manage inventory of art supplies and equipment.
  • Order and track materials needed for courses and student projects.
  • Manage vendor relationships and supply budgets.
  • Prepare studio spaces, materials, and equipment for classes and activities.
  • Provide technical assistance and equipment training to students and faculty.
  • Offer periodic workshops to ensure broad access to arts facilities.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and the UNE Health and Safety Officer to maintain safe studio environments.
  • Stay informed about industry standards and regulations for studio operations.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and address hazards proactively.
  • Coordinate studio cleaning and upkeep.
  • Comply with UNE’s OSHA compliance program and the University of New England Safety Manual.
  • Comply with Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Standards.
  • May serve as the supervisor of undergraduate student assistants and work-study students.
