About The Position

Lee Montessori Public Charter School implements a series of visual arts classes that build on the Montessori philosophy. The Specials Teacher will be part of our Specials teaching team to ensure that the curriculum and pedagogy honor and elevate the traditions and cultures of our children (PK3 - 6th grade) and school community. The Specials Teacher delivers dynamic, interactive, hands-on, and educational lessons that align with Lee’s core values and Montessori philosophy. As an Interventionist, you will implement Tier 2 interventions in language, math, and work skills. Using data from the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) process as well as the collaboration of the Student Support Team, the Interventionist will help coordinate and deliver academic interventions for students in our primary and elementary classrooms. You will receive training as needed in these interventions.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required.
  • Experience in individual and collaborative curriculum development.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with the Montessori Method preferred.
  • At least two years of teaching experience in an urban setting preferred.
  • Have a firm commitment to upholding the school’s core values.

Responsibilities

  • Create and implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum in a specialty to linguistically and culturally diverse students.
  • Document all syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, rubrics, and other instructional materials and methods.
  • Use instructional practices in accordance with the Montessori philosophy and in ways that affirm all children.
  • Lead the development of school-wide art initiatives.
  • Reinforce (and develop) school-wide rules and expectations that respect the backgrounds and culture of all children.
  • Daily room setup and breakdown, including but not limited to moving materials, supplies, and equipment necessary and setting up classrooms.
  • Meeting regularly with students to work with them in assessing their own success and facilitating an individual path of progress.
  • Working with students of varying abilities, including those with learning exceptionalities, as well as attending meetings to support children who require it.
  • Work with the Director of Student Support, Assistant Principal, and Primary and Elementary Coaches to identify areas of needed academic intervention in both pull-out/push-in scenarios.
  • Adhere to the academic intervention schedule to provide support across the school.
  • Deliver direct instruction to students using Montessori materials and supplemental materials, as needed.
  • Meet with guides regularly to collaborate on the delivery of services.
  • Observe the child in the environment regularly to determine the appropriate support for each student.
  • Support classroom teams in implementing follow-up to the intervention during the regular work period.
  • Assist with school day activities (recess, lunch, field trips, arrival/dismissal).
  • Maintain paper and electronic student files.
  • Seek training in culturally relevant curriculum and pedagogy.
  • Perform additional school and administrative duties as needed.
