About The Position

The Art Instructor provides support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a creative, inclusive, and person-centered environment. This role is responsible for teaching artistic techniques, promoting skill development, supporting community integration, and fostering self-expression through the arts. The Art Instructor also helps promote the studio and creates opportunities for individuals served to engage with the local community. A strong commitment to RHD’s values and mission must be demonstrated in all aspects of the position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, Art Education, Studio Arts, or a related field, plus one (1) year of experience in an art-related discipline; OR High School Diploma or GED equivalent, plus three (3) years of studio practice, including at least one (1) year of experience in an art-related discipline.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and other relevant technology.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must successfully complete all required employment screenings, including FBI clearances, if applicable.

  • Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Guide artists in various art processes while teaching artistic techniques, materials, and creative skills.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of art curricula designed to educate and enrich the individuals served.
  • Teach artistic, vocational, and life skills through creative programming.
  • Encourage artistic growth, self-expression, and skill development in a supportive learning environment.
  • Provide individualized support to participants, helping to remove barriers to learning and increase engagement in services.
  • Support individuals in community-based activities in accordance with their service plans and identified goals.
  • Collaborate as a member of a multidisciplinary team to provide holistic, values-based services.
  • Communicate and coordinate with family members, caregivers, and other support systems, as needed, to support individual goals.
  • Recruit, train, and support volunteers working within the studio environment.
  • Promote community inclusion and opportunities for individuals served to showcase their artistic talents.
  • Collaborate with team members to maintain effective daily operations and participate in staff meetings and required trainings.
  • Complete all clinical, programmatic, and administrative documentation accurately and within established timelines.
  • Track daily attendance and coordinate staffing assignments to facilitate classes and special projects.
  • Maintain an organized studio environment, including art supplies, equipment, storage areas, and inventory records.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety procedures and immediately report incidents or concerns to the Program Director.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
