About The Position

We are seeking an engaging and reliable Art Instructor to design and lead hands-on “Make & Take” craft workshops and guided group painting sessions. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys creating approachable, fun art experiences for participants of varying skill levels. Responsibilities include planning simple, creative projects; preparing materials and samples; and confidently leading small to mid-sized groups through step-by-step instruction. Events may range from weekly workshops to 1–2 events per month, depending on scheduling needs. The ideal candidate has experience facilitating group art activities, strong classroom or event management skills, and the ability to create a welcoming, encouraging environment that inspires creativity and participation. Your role includes managing class materials, maintaining attendance records, and working closely with students to ensure they achieve their artistic goals. As a passionate advocate for the arts, you’ll also promote programs, encourage participation, and provide mentorship to both youth and adults. Your work will inspire creativity, build confidence, and contribute to the community’s artistic growth!

Requirements

  • One year of formal education or training required.
  • 1+ years experience in teaching art classes required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact with different age groups.
  • Ability to interact with co-workers and the public in a positive, professional manner.
  • Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances.
  • Ability to work in a team setting with other professionals.
  • Exercise good judgment in personal actions.
  • Strong computer skills, including use of Microsoft Office products, e-mail, and Internet.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute art classes with a curriculum that appeals to a wide range of interests, capabilities, and age ranges including: group and / or private art lessons in various media types.
  • Prepare lesson plans for applicable classes and track student progress.
  • Communicate regularly with participants to ensure they are aware of progress.
  • Maintain attendance records for the art classes and provide them to the Performing and Creative Arts Coordinator to be entered into the Community Center Management System (CCMS).
  • Ensure an adequate supply of art materials is available for use.
  • For youth programs, create an environment in the art programs that facilitates the outcomes of the Search Institute’s 40 Developmental Assets for Youth.
  • Promote and stimulate participation in Kroc Center art programs.
  • Provide role modeling and guidance to both youth and adults.
  • Ensure adequate safety measures are taken with regards to class activities, materials and tools uses, and storage.

Benefits

  • Pay rate of $20-$23/hour depending on skills and experience.
