About The Position

This Counselor role at Recovery Centers of America (RCA) Danvers, will support patients in their recovery journey by incorporating creative therapies to enhance self-expression, emotional well-being, and healing. Working alongside a multidisciplinary team, you will help create a therapeutic environment that promotes engagement and fosters meaningful connections. Your role is essential in offering patients a holistic approach to recovery through the power of art and music, fostering self-discovery, resilience, and emotional healing.

Requirements

  • High School diploma/GED required; Associate degree in a related field preferred.
  • One year of experience in substance use treatment or closely related field.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to build strong therapeutic relationships with patients.
  • Organizational skills to handle a variety of responsibilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree from a related field and/or licensure such as LMHC/LCSW/LADC I preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree and/or LADC II or related experience preferred.
  • Certification/licensure in spiritual advisement, 12-step facilitation, wellness, or nutrition is a plus.
  • Previous experience in a substance abuse, mental health, or addiction recovery setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1-on-1 and group art therapy sessions, fostering recovery and self-expression.
  • Engage patients through recovery-oriented creative activities as scheduled/assigned.
  • Support patients’ treatment engagement, intervening to de-escalate barriers and promote continuity of care.
  • Carry out RCA Care Model with fidelity, ensuring all aspects of patient care align with RCA’s standards.
  • Facilitate patient engagement and re-engagement, supporting their recovery process.
  • Collaborate with the clinical and case management teams to develop and implement continuity of care plans.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of patient interactions, including progress toward recovery goals.
  • Assist with family engagement initiatives, such as family orientation and seminars, supporting family visits, and ongoing communication with patient families.
  • Complete any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Provide direct support to 1st responder and frontline programs as assigned.
  • Facilitate recovery education, including 12-step philosophy and step work, both in group and individual settings.
  • Coordinate and engage patients in wellness and/or fitness activities.
  • Facilitate art and/or music therapy sessions for individuals or groups.
  • Provide spiritual support to patients as part of their overall recovery plan.
