About The Position

As part of Odyssey’s team of Growth professionals, the Business Development Manager (BDM), Dept of Army will successfully identify, qualify, shape and maintain a funnel of new business opportunities, and lead growth initiatives for the organization. This is a new market for Odyssey, and as such requires an enthusiastic self-starter with an entrepreneurial mindset who is hungry to help create and build a portfolio from scratch. Success in this position requires a proactive approach and a deep understanding of the Dept of Army market. BD Team members serve as the relationship holders with Army customers and will be the conduit between Army clients and the remainder of the Odyssey growth team, helping convey important client perspectives across our organization and communicating our value to current and potential customers. Working closely with the Senior Business Development Manager – Army and five operational business group Executive Directors (Aviation, C2ISR, CCN2, Space and Missile Defense, Life Sciences), this BDM reports directly to the Senior BDM – Army and aligned under the Executive Director for BD and Capture. This is a full-time hybrid role ideally based out of a Army Acquisition concentration area (priority is Aberdeen, MD) or an Odyssey corporate office.

Requirements

  • Clearance: Secret Clearance with the ability to obtain a Top-Secret Clearance.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Business or Technical Discipline, or relevant military, government or business experience.
  • 3-5 years Business Development or Capture experience in DoD services companies, preferably supporting Dept of Army customers and markets.
  • Demonstrated track record of identifying and closing new business in similar organizations to Odyssey using consultative and collaborative multi-discipline team approach.
  • Strong understanding of requirements shaping and acquisition/procurement process within the DoD with specific focus on Dept of Army related organizations.
  • Strong familiarity with Dept of Army customer base, industrial base and/or user communities supporting acquisition, development, testing, integration sustainment and requirements development activities at key hub location.
  • Recent track record of winning Army programs.

Nice To Haves

  • Active Top Secret Clearance.
  • Master's Degree in a business field.
  • Project Management Institute (PMI) Project Management Professional (PMP) or Shipley certification.
  • 10+ years of Military or federal civil service experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Capture, Proposals, Operations and Technical SMEs to pursue a unified Dept of Army business development strategy.
  • Collaborate with other market Business Development Managers to drive new business and business relationships across all market accounts.
  • Identify, qualify, and maintain a robust pipeline of new business opportunities.
  • Identify potential future business opportunities by researching industry and related events, publications, and announcements.
  • Maintain a current and relevant understanding of emerging/growth markets and long-term trends in Dept of Army related technology development, procurement and operational needs.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers and stakeholders within Dept of Army related program offices and developmental organizations across the DoD.
  • Build partnerships with other defense contractors and prime integrators to accelerate time to value and multiply Odyssey’s impact.
  • Represent Odyssey at industry events, conferences, and trade shows to absorb, engage and promote our services and network with potential clients. Identify and pursue business opportunities that result.
  • Assist in responding to market research Requests for Information, Sources sought notifications, as well as proposal reviews and activity, ensuring alignment with customer needs and compliance with requirements.
  • Meet or exceed annual sales and profitability goals as established by Odyssey, contribute to goal development.
  • Prepare presentations and brief Executive Leadership team at stage reviews and manager’s meetings and offsites.
  • Continuously contribute to the evolution and expansion of Odyssey’s reputation and engagement activity.
