About The Position

Sugpiat Defense, a division of Akhiok-Kaguyak, Inc. (AKI), has a requirement for qualified and skilled Armed Security Officers to provide security services in support of the EPA Atlantic Coastal Environmental Sciences Division (ACESD). The Armed Security Officer will provide site protection, foot patrols, access control, and electronic surveillance services at the U.S. Government-owned facility located at 27 Tarzwell Drive, Narragansett, Rhode Island 02882. The Armed Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment and providing a visible deterrent against unauthorized or illegal activities directed toward U.S. Government employees, visitors, information, programs, facilities, and property.

Requirements

  • Must be a United States citizen by birth or naturalization or a lawful permanent resident of the United States.
  • Must possess and maintain all State of Rhode Island certifications, licenses, permits, and qualifications required to perform armed private security duties, including applicable firearms certification and qualification.
  • Must successfully complete all required criminal background checks, physical examinations, and drug screenings.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including shift work, weekends, holidays, and other hours as required by contract operations.
  • Must be detail-oriented and demonstrate a professional demeanor and sound judgment.
  • Must be fluent in English and able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Must be able to prepare and submit clear, accurate, and timely security and incident reports.
  • Must be proficient in the use of cell phones, text messaging, email systems, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and other standard workplace technology.
  • Must possess the physical stamina necessary to perform required foot patrols and other security duties.
  • Must possess and maintain current CPR certification.
  • Must possess and maintain current AED certification.
  • Must be able to meet all applicable contract, facility, and Government requirements for armed security personnel.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of service in the United States Armed Forces, including the Reserves or National Guard
  • Any combination totaling two (2) years of physical security experience as an armed or unarmed security officer and service in the United States Armed Forces, including the Reserves or National Guard
  • An associate degree or higher in a security-related, criminal justice, or law enforcement-related field
  • Successful completion of a recognized police officer basic training academy
  • Three (3) years of experience in physical security as an armed or unarmed security officer
  • Eligibility under any applicable long-standing "grandfather" provision permitted by the contract or governing requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a visible security presence and maintain surveillance and access control throughout the facility and property.
  • Conduct routine foot patrols of assigned areas to identify suspicious activity, security concerns, safety hazards, or infrastructure and equipment malfunctions.
  • Monitor electronic surveillance and other security systems as required.
  • Screen visitors using X-ray and magnetometer screening equipment in accordance with established procedures.
  • Control and monitor access to the facility and ensure only authorized individuals are permitted entry.
  • Detect, document, and report suspicious activity, security incidents, safety concerns, and other unusual conditions.
  • Report incidents to the appropriate authorities in accordance with established standard operating procedures.
  • Notify the Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) and/or appropriate local authorities when law enforcement, emergency medical, or fire response is required.
  • Assist with the early identification and reporting of emergency situations and provide directions and informational assistance to employees, visitors, and guests.
  • Maintain accurate security logs, incident reports, and other required documentation.
  • Document and report individuals, activities, or circumstances that may threaten the security, safety, or orderly operation of the premises.
  • Preserve physical and electronic evidence in accordance with established procedures.
  • Provide a deterrent against unauthorized or illegal activities directed toward EPA employees, visitors, information, programs, Government facilities, or property.
  • Periodically monitor laboratory experiments or designated laboratory areas as required by the contract or facility procedures.
  • Provide CPR, first aid, and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) assistance within the scope of training and certification.
  • Perform prolonged standing and walking, including approximately five to six hours during a 12-hour shift, and navigate multiple levels of stairs and uneven terrain.
  • Perform other security-related duties as assigned and in accordance with contract requirements and established procedures.
