About The Position

The Andrew Jackson Foundation is seeking a dependable and professional Armed Security & Guest Safety Officer to help maintain a safe, secure, and welcoming environment at The Hermitage, one of Tennessee’s most recognized historic destinations. This is more than a traditional security position. You’ll play an important role in protecting guests, employees, buildings, museum collections, and the historic property while also contributing to a positive visitor experience. The Armed Security & Guest Safety Officer will support the day-to-day safety and security of the property through regular patrols, access control, alarm monitoring, incident response, and guest assistance. This role requires someone who can remain alert and professional while interacting with visitors, responding appropriately to changing situations, and following established security procedures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Valid Tennessee Driver’s License
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Tennessee Armed Security Certification; training may be available for qualified candidates
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with security or alarm systems
  • Professional demeanor and sound judgment
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately
  • Dependable, observant, and able to remain alert throughout the shift

Nice To Haves

  • Firearm training and qualification
  • Previous experience in security, public safety, law enforcement, military service, or a related field
  • Experience working in a customer-facing or public environment

Responsibilities

  • Open, secure, and inspect buildings according to operational schedules
  • Conduct regular patrols throughout the property, buildings, and outdoor grounds
  • Monitor and respond to fire, burglar, panic, and other security alarm systems
  • Observe for safety hazards, suspicious activity, theft, property damage, or other security concerns
  • Control access to restricted areas, including museum and collections spaces
  • Report security concerns and assist with maintaining a safe environment for guests and employees
  • Follow established procedures during incidents, emergencies, and other unexpected situations
  • Respond appropriately to accidents, security incidents, and emergency situations
  • Prepare accurate and detailed incident, activity, and security reports
  • Document relevant observations and communicate concerns to leadership as needed
  • Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive situations
  • Provide professional and courteous assistance to visitors, staff, and guests
  • Help maintain a safe and welcoming atmosphere throughout the property
  • Assist with traffic flow, parking, and crowd management during special events
  • Provide transportation assistance for visitors and staff when needed
  • Communicate clearly and professionally while enforcing security procedures
