The National Synchrotron Light Source II (NSLS-II) at Brookhaven National Laboratory seeks a beamline scientist for the soft x-ray angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) and resonant inelastic x-ray scattering (RIXS) Imaging (ARI) beamline. The ARI beamline incorporates two endstations, one for ARPES and one for RIXS, and provides ultra-high spatial resolution (~100nm) scanning imaging capability in each endstation via tightly-focusing mirror optics. Other spectroscopic techniques are also provided including XPS, XAS, inverse XAS, photoelectron diffraction, and fluorescence. The ARI beamline is currently under construction with expected first light in the summer of 2026. As the ARI Beamline Scientist concentrating on its nano-ARPES (nARPES) endstation and scientific program, the successful candidate will work closely with a multidisciplinary team including beamline scientists, data analysis scientists, technicians, engineers, and other support staff to conduct the beamline operations and user program associated with the ARI nARPES endstation. The ARI nARPES Beamline Scientist will conduct a forefront personal scientific program, advance the ARI nARPES science program, enhance ARI beamline capabilities in support of the nARPES program, and propose technical improvements and upgrades to ensure that the ARI nARPES endstation remains at the state-of-the-art. The successful candidate will also work closely with the ARI nano-RIXS (nRIXS) beamline scientist to conduct a joint scientific program that takes optimal advantage of the unique combination of nARPES and nRIXS capabilities applied to the same sample.
