About The Position

The Area Vice President of Operations is a key member of the leadership team, providing strategic and operational oversight for multiple hospice agencies across the region. Reporting to the SVP & General Manager, this leader ensures agency performance, clinical quality, and patient care consistently reflect Luminary's mission and standards — while serving as a trusted thought partner on growth, compliance, and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare operations
  • Proven track record of leading multi-site operations and driving performance improvements
  • Deep knowledge of regulatory requirements in hospice and home health
  • Strong financial and operational acumen
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and change management skills
  • Ability to travel regularly to Luminary Hospice agencies

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s in healthcare administration, business, or related field preferred
  • Hospice or post-acute experience strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the SVP to shape and execute operational strategy, aligning agency performance with enterprise goals
  • Advise executive leadership on field operations, workforce trends, and market dynamics
  • Lead with a patient-first mindset, ensuring every decision reflects Luminary's mission and values
  • Provide direct leadership, mentorship, and accountability to Executive Directors and agency leadership teams across multiple markets
  • Standardize and scale operational processes to ensure consistency in care delivery and staff experience
  • Drive performance against clinical quality, patient satisfaction, regulatory compliance, census growth, and financial benchmarks
  • Ensure agencies are appropriately staffed and resourced to deliver timely, high-quality care
  • Build and maintain a framework for monitoring KPIs, conducting regular reviews, and implementing corrective action when needed
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs without compromising care quality
  • Foster a culture of accountability and continuous learning by introducing and reinforcing best practices
  • Partner with clinical leadership on quality improvement initiatives
  • Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and accreditation requirements governing hospice care
  • Monitor regulatory changes and guide agencies in proactively updating policies and procedures
  • Partner with Compliance on audits, corrective action plans, and risk mitigation
  • Coach and develop agency leaders, equipping them with the tools to succeed
  • Partner with HR and Talent Acquisition to strengthen recruitment, retention, and workforce planning
  • Champion Luminary's culture so staff feel valued, supported, and aligned to the mission
  • Lead through influence, building trust and engagement at every level of the organization
  • Partner with business development to assess new markets, support agency start-ups, and drive census growth
  • Provide operational due diligence and integration support for acquisitions
  • Monitor the competitive landscape to help position Luminary as the hospice provider of choice
  • Partner with clinical leadership to ensure operational decisions support exceptional patient outcomes
  • Work with Finance on budgeting, forecasting, and margin improvement
  • Collaborate with IT on tools, technology, and reporting for field operations
