About The Position

General Dynamics Electric Boat, the nation's premier designer and builder of nuclear submarines, is seeking an Area Superintendent to take part in building the most complex product in the world. The Area Superintendent is responsible for management oversight of a designated area in D915 – AFC/Modular Construction operations.

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent
Minimum 2 years of supervisor experience in Operations or in a relevant field with direct reports
Minimum 3 years of pipe experience
Available to work any shift, extended hours and weekends as business needs dictate
Able to obtain and maintain a security clearance through the Department of Defense

Nice To Haves

Some college
Management experience in the fabrication/outfitting trades
Nuclear experience
Computer skills, including Microsoft Office, MS project, ATA, Lotus Notes, EWP preferred
Previous military/Navy experience

Responsibilities

Manage and direct the daily activities of multiple operations to achieve department and facility goals and business objectives
Set goals and measure attainment to meet department cost objectives
Maintain safety and quality, achieve schedules and initiate process improvements
Proactively assess areas of safety to maintain and improve safety records
Motivate and train first line supervisors
Promote employee development and training
Foster a positive team environment as well as interact with all levels of management and the customer
Interface with HR to resolve employee issues
Coordinate with external customers and internal partners/stakeholders
Deliver quality products/services
Drive quality by monitoring the overall quality performance and applying corrective actions to address deficiencies
Achieve cost/schedule objectives by adjusting manpower, material and equipment as per the allocated budget
Drive innovation and continuous improvement efforts to support program goals
Request improvements to production facilities and equipment
Identify critical equipment and material needs for near-term production events
Ensure compliance with safety and environmental programs within the workforce and workplace
Identify needs and provide input to department manager for the long-term facility and capital plans
Manage risk impact to cost, schedule and objectives; establish mitigation strategies to meet performance objectives
Identify emergent resource needs, prioritize and negotiate for resources to meet immediate production requirements
Provide purchase requests and supporting documentation to manager
Lead critique investigations; implement corrective actions
Consult with cognizant shift Area Superintendents for pertinent issues and matters related to production facilities, equipment and procedures
Efficiently manage high volume workflow in a fast-paced environment while maintaining first-time quality
May be required to oversee and manage multiple production areas throughout shift
Provide input on manpower needs to the department manager
Assist with succession planning and talent management within the department
Recruit internally, interview and recommend best candidates for supervisory positions and, when necessary, hourly employees
Improve workforce capabilities by identifying needed training and development; plan and execute training within the shop
Establish and communicate work expectations; assess overall workforce performance and productivity; positively motivate the workforce
Create an engaging workplace climate; reinforce desired workforce values and behaviors; continuously improve morale
Manage individual performance of supervisors; develop their technical and leadership skills
Consult with cognizant shift Area Superintendents for pertinent issues and matters related to their respective workforce and workplace climate
