Area Superintendent – System Operations

About The Position

In collaboration with other Field Superintendents and under the supervision of the Regional Manager, this position will be primarily responsible for the oversight of the operations, strategic planning and personnel management of the Start-Up, Air Balance, and Warranty group within the assigned area. This role supervises Area Supervisors and General Forepersons.

  • Experience and deep understanding of the trades (sheet metal, pipe fitting, process piping, plumbing, electrical, controls, start-up, TAB, site-utilities) and general fabrication practices
  • 12+ years of experience in Construction leading projects
  • Member of the local United Association union in good standing
  • Occasional overtime and weekends will be required
  • Willingness and ability to attend ACCO and Union training sessions
  • Experience with the various business and corporate software technologies ACCO currently utilizes
  • MS Office: Word, Excel, Project
  • Google Workspace: Docs, Gmail, Sheets, Forms
  • Others: Adobe, Procore, Bluebeam, Box, BuildingStart
  • Proficient in English
  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
  • Skilled in reading and interpreting plans and specifications
  • Knowledge of Local quality, occupational safety, and health regulations for construction job sites

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee all Start-Up field activities to ensure standards and productivity are met in an effort to achieve company goals.
  • Assist direct reports with Resource management, Proper team selection including assignment of Forepersons, and Project execution strategies and scheduling.
  • Mentor, train, and develop future supervisors (succession planning) to meet current and future business needs.
  • Provide weekly project progress, health, and safety reports.
  • Help to provide resolution of issues, challenges, and obstacles.
  • Oversee the execution of QA/QC protocols and the implementation of Safety Department’s protocols.
  • Engage equipment vendors and third-party subcontractors.
  • Implement Acco policies and procedures.
  • Understand and ensure compliance with applicable union Collective Bargaining Agreements.
  • Plan for successful project installation.
  • Conduct Job Walks (with/for project management).
  • Attend pre-bid & post-bid interviews and review bid estimates.
  • Participate in project kick-off, mid-job and wrap-up meetings.
  • Review project documents to determine the proper staffing requirements.
  • Assign field supervision and labor to projects.
  • Continuously evaluate all personnel to ensure performance is at the highest level.
  • Monitor and advise on quality control measures to ensure high-quality output at or above industry standards.
  • Evaluate and advise on means and methods of continuous improvement to increase efficiency and meet project goals.
  • Review and track project labor budgets.
  • Fill any project need gaps until job is assigned a field supervisor.
  • Engage with labor relations representatives to create and foster meaningful, long-term relationships that support company goals including defending and resolving labor disputes.
  • Possess knowledge of current building and mechanical code.
  • Encourage communication between the assigned project supervision and the associated PM/PE.
  • Coordinate and assist with problem-solving strategies with the PM and assigned supervision when issues rise beyond the scope or understanding/capability of the project supervision assigned.
  • Mentor Supervisors, General Forepersons and Forepersons to be elite leaders.
  • Assist Director in departmental budgets, financial planning and fleet management as needed.
  • Perform other tasks and duties as assigned by Regional Manager and/or upper management.
  • Understand and support the strategic plan and corporate vision.
  • Ensure adoption and implementation of standard processes and procedures to achieve high-level quality, productivity and efficiency across field operations.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with Start-Up activities (i.e.: installations, materials, equipment, personnel).
  • Ensure safety measures are up-to-date and communicated effectively to all field personnel in an effort to mitigate risk and reduce liability.
  • Adhere to and promote company policies.
  • Instill a culture of accountability, integrity, ethics, and respect within the department.
  • Coordinate labor requests with the local union labor halls.
  • Responsible for all hiring and termination of union System Operations staff within the assigned area.
  • Create and foster collaborative relationships among leadership teams across varying departments and locations.
  • Participate in cross-functional initiatives and projects to meet company growth objectives.
  • Work closely with project management on bid strategies and current projects regarding Constructability, Resource availability, Labor budgets, Project execution opportunities, and Potential project challenges.
  • Collaborate with fellow leadership and share experience to develop best practices, align processes, and leverage resources.
