About The Position

General Dynamics Electric Boat, the nation's premier designer and builder of nuclear submarines, is seeking an Area Superintendent to take part in building the most complex product in the world. D924 is seeking an Area Superintendent responsible for management oversight of a designated area. This role manages and directs the daily activities of multiple operations to achieve department and facility goals and business objectives.

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent
2+ years of supervisor experience in Operations or relevant field
3+ years of blast, paint, sound dampening or related experience
Proficiency with MS Office suite, MS project, ATA, Lotus Notes, EWP
Available to work any shift, extended hours and weekends as business needs dictate
Able to obtain and maintain security clearance through the Department of Defense
Able to promote a positive team environment
Able to articulate and communicate effectively with all levels of employees, management and the customer
Possess strong organizational, computer, presentation and interpersonal skills

Nice To Haves

Some college
Experience in blast/paint operations and MIP/SHT/XHT installation
Vocational, Technical and Community Colleges or Apprentice programs, FLG/BLG training/experience
Previous military/Navy experience

Responsibilities

Proven track record in safety, maintaining quality, achieving schedules, initiating process improvements and be a good communicator
Proactive in areas of safety and demonstrated ability to improve safety records
Ability to motivate and train first line supervision
Demonstrate effective blast/paint and MIP/SHT installation problem solving skills
Promote employee development and training
Promote a positive team environment, as well as interact with all levels of management and the customer
Interface with Human Resources and resolve employee issues
Coordinate with external customers and internal partners/stakeholders
Deliver quality products/services
Achieve cost/schedule objectives by adjusting manpower, material and equipment as per the allocated budget
Drive innovation and continuous improvement efforts to support program goals
Request improvements to production facilities and equipment
Identify critical material needs for near-term production events
Ensure compliance with safety and environmental programs within the workforce and workplace
Identify needs and provide input to department manager for the long-term facility and capital plans
Manage risk impact to cost, schedule and objectives; establish mitigation strategies to meet performance objectives
Identify emergent resource needs, prioritize and negotiate for resources to meet immediate production requirements
Provide purchase requests and documentation to manager
Lead critique investigations; implement corrective actions
Review pass-down information with pertinent Area Superintendents for issues and matters related to production facilities, equipment and procedures
Provide input on manpower needs to the department manager
Assist with succession planning and talent management within the department
Recruit internally, interview and recommend best candidates for supervisory positions and, when necessary, hourly employees
Improve workforce capabilities by identifying needed training and development; plan and execute training within the shop
Establish and communicate work expectations; assess overall workforce performance and productivity; positively motivate the workforce
Create an engaging workplace climate; reinforce desired workforce values and behaviors; continuously improve morale
Manage individual performance of supervisors; develop their technical and leadership skills
Consult with pertinent Area Superintendents for issues and matters related to their respective workforce and workplace climate
