About The Position

Responsible for the management, direction, supervision and evaluation of schools within the assigned area of the school district. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, supervision of the area principals and their adherence to instructional and management standards. Assists curriculum and instruction with assessment and accountability and assists Human Resources with staffing. Monitors for appropriate school and classroom learning environments and interprets policies and procedures related to the academic program. Responsible for the selection, development and evaluation of school-based leaders.

  • Five to seven years of successful administrative supervisory experience

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership for principals to meet the instructional goals of the school district.
  • Collaborates with district personnel to develop, schedule, and administer professional development to positively impact student outcomes in a cost-effective manner.
  • Effectively communicates district policy, goals and guidelines to area principals.
  • Works with appropriate staff to ensure a horizontal instructional continuity among assigned area schools.
  • Collaborates with building leadership and curriculum and instruction team to strengthen implementation of the approved curriculum and the alignment with state standards through accurate analysis of data sources.
  • Encourages and supports development of innovative instructional programs relating to the Strategic Plan of the district.
  • Leverages professional development, and research-based strategies to increase the collective efficacy of campus teams.
  • Fosters collegiality and team building among appropriate personnel, encouraging active involvement in decision making.
  • Works with the administrative staff to continue or initiate positive, productive campus climates.
  • Recognizes efforts and achievements of the administrative staff, teachers and students.
  • Leverages personal skills as a leader of leaders across the district, in the community, and in the profession to positively impact student learning and achievement.
  • Promotes a unified purpose and shared vision for the school to ensure high expectations for all learners.
  • Engages school communities and stakeholders to promote the District Improvement Plan (DIP).
  • Provides for effective two-way communication with staff, district employees, media, community and board.
  • Demonstrates skill in conflict resolution with administrators, parents, teachers, and/or community.
  • Demonstrates an awareness of district-community needs and initiates activities to meet those needs.
  • Articulates the district’s mission and goals to the community and solicits community support in transforming them into reality.
  • Demonstrates the use of appropriate and effective techniques for community and parent involvement.
  • Develops procedures to facilitate collaborative decision-making processes, foster and promote collegiality and team building.
  • Ensures that school rules are observed uniformly and that consequences of misconduct are applied equitably to all students.
  • Supports and encourages the implementation of guidelines for student conduct that reflect enhanced opportunities for learning and communicates these to students, staff, and parents.
  • Ensures that the standards developed for the student management system and expected student behavior are maintained within the resources of the district.
  • Cooperates to develop portions of the handbooks for students and staff.
  • Works collaboratively with others in developing Denton ISD’s district goals and articulates a vision for the district’s program.
  • Uses evaluative results to determine the extent to which campus/district instructional objectives have been met and collaborates with campus leadership to develop action plans for improvement.
  • Assists program directors in compiling reasonable proposed budgets and cost estimates based upon documented program needs.
  • Determines the fiscal needs of programs and ensure those fiscal resources appropriately address these needs and conform to the mission of the school district.
  • Uses evidence of program outcomes for corrective action and improvement, as well as for recognition of success.
  • Implements the policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and the local board policy in the area(s) supervised.
  • Assists building principals through a program of continuous assessment for the purpose of school improvement.
  • Utilizes the district’s administrative appraisal instrument appropriately and ensures that the process clearly and accurately represents staff performance.
  • Maintains and models a district-wide culture of professional learning and improvement that supports frequent professional feedback.
  • Confers regularly with assigned staff to discuss performance and jointly develop improvement objectives to identify professional growth opportunities.
  • Makes sound recommendations relative to personnel placement, transfer, retention, and dismissal.
  • Monitors professional research and disseminates ideas and information to other professionals; provides leadership in identifying trends and opportunities, as well as solve problems facing the profession.
  • Participates in professional organizations, disseminates ideas and information to other professionals and provides leadership in identifying trends and opportunities.
  • Serves as a role model for continuous improvement in professional practice among colleagues.
  • Assists in developing appropriate professional growth activities for principals that are relevant to their job assignment.
  • Delegates duties, responsibilities, and functions effectively in assigned areas.
  • Uses information provided through assessment instruments, the district appraisal process, and feedback from multiple sources to improve performance.
  • Strives to improve leadership skills through self-initiated professional development activities.
  • Attends School Board meetings/work sessions; and prepares and presents reports for the School Board as requested and directed.
  • Supervises and appraises the principals in the assigned area.
  • Supervises and appraises other administrators and/or programs, as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.
