About The Position

The Area Sales Manager will be responsible for leading and developing a team of in-store Assisted Sales Specialists across high-volume Best Buy storefronts. This role involves direct people management, sales tracking, performance analysis, reporting, and maintaining strong relationships with retail partners. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in retail sales, people management, and proficiency with Google Workspace.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent practical field experience.
  • 3+ years of direct sales experience within big-box retail or consumer electronics (Best Buy ecosystem experience strongly preferred).
  • 2+ years of direct supervisory/people-management experience leading retail teams, store associates, or field sales representatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to track sales data, calculate run rates/KPIs, identify root-cause trends, and build weekly executive status reports.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with proven success building rapport with retail store management (GMs, Supervisors).
  • Fluent with Google Workspace (Google Sheets, Slides, Docs, Drive, Meet) and retail reporting platforms.
  • Willingness to work a standard 40-hour work week with 50–75% travel across the assigned territory, including regular weekend visits during peak retail foot-traffic hours.

Responsibilities

  • Directly manage, recruit, onboard, and develop a team of 20–25 in-store Assisted Sales Specialists across high-volume Best Buy storefronts.
  • Conduct regular field visits, side-by-side coaching, and retail audits to ensure sales specialists master product demonstrations, actively engage shoppers, and deliver consistent brand advocacy. Travel does include multi-state support.
  • Manage end-to-end people operations: scheduling, timesheets, payroll approval, attendance/adherence tracking, performance improvement plans, and annual performance reviews.
  • Cultivate a high-accountability, high-energy sales culture focused on customer experience and consistent metric attainment.
  • Monitor daily and weekly sales metrics, sell-through units, attach rates, and staffing efficiency against company and client sales targets.
  • Identify high-performing locations and underperforming doors; implement targeted coaching, shifts in schedule coverage, or tactical floor plays to remedy performance gaps.
  • Ensure team compliance with merchandising guidelines, demo fixture uptime, and live product functionality inside every covered Best Buy store.
  • Compile and deliver structured weekly performance reports, synthesizing territory sales trends, foot traffic patterns, competitive activity, inventory bottlenecks, and customer feedback.
  • Partner with client leadership and internal account teams during weekly and monthly business reviews to present actionable retail intelligence straight from the sales floor.
  • Leverage Google Workspace (Sheets, Docs, Slides) to maintain clean territory tracking sheets, dashboards, and executive updates.
  • Build and preserve strong working relationships with Best Buy General Managers (GMs), Assistant Store Managers (ASMs), and Experience Supervisors to secure prime product placement, associate cross-collaboration, and scheduling alignment.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for store leadership regarding team attendance, floor conduct, and inventory allocation.
