About The Position

Discovery Land Company's Driftwood Golf & Ranch Club, located near Austin, TX, is seeking an Area Retail Manager to oversee daily retail operations and create a world-class shopping experience with exceptional customer service. This role also supports the DLC Corporate Retail Team by sourcing and buying swag and uniforms for Maverick and Austin Surf Club, and assists with property startups and new store openings in Texas. The Area Retail Manager collaborates with the Regional Retail Director and cross-functional teams (Marketing, Finance) to establish retail SOPs, train staff, plan events, and manage other requests.

Requirements

  • One (1) to three (3) years of retail experience in a supervisory role.
  • Previous work experience in hospitality or customer service, preferably in a fast-paced, luxury service environment.
  • Experience with Point of Sales Systems (Jonas or TEI preferred).
  • Knowledge of Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Basic knowledge of the golf/boutique/specialty retail industry as it relates to hospitality and private club retail environments.
  • Extraordinary attention to detail, quality, and service.
  • Ability to sell and create rapport with customers.
  • Positive attitude, professional demeanor, and exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work flexible work hours/schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to stay calm and focused during the busiest of times.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English; additional languages preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee year-round daily retail operations, creating a world-class shopping experience and providing exceptional customer service.
  • Support the DLC Corporate Retail Team with sourcing and buying swag and uniforms at Maverick and Austin Surf Club.
  • Assist with property startup needs and new store openings at all Texas locations.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Marketing and Finance team leaders to define and implement SOPs for retail and swag.
  • Train staff and plan retail events.
  • Manage inventory and purchasing using the open to buy system (Management One).
  • Execute and oversee purchases, including vendor communications, new account setup, purchase orders, and order tracking.
  • Collaborate on custom product development and ensure adherence to branding guidelines.
  • Monitor the receipt flow of POs and maintain On-Order status.
  • Develop and maintain SOPs for processing invoices, inventory control, and AP reconciliation with accounting.
  • Attend required trade shows.
  • Assist with sourcing and purchasing of staff uniforms, event swag, and other miscellaneous projects.
  • Update and maintain vendor contact information.
  • Conduct monthly physical inventories for retail and quarterly for swag stock.
  • Maintain shrink parameters for retail and swag inventory.
  • Monitor sell-through of best sellers and core items.
  • Receive retail merchandise in the POS system, ensuring adherence to company standards for category, SKU assignment, pricing, and descriptions.
  • Ensure adherence to policies for employee purchases.
  • Reconcile receipts and outstanding issues with the accounting department.
  • Ensure the store is pristinely merchandised with frequent floor rotations and timely new product placement.
  • Monitor and drive sales to meet monthly revenue budgets by building member relationships and staying knowledgeable about brands and fashion trends.
  • Incorporate trunk shows, demo days, and other promotions to expand retail offerings and increase revenues.
  • Assist and service members and guests with retail purchases, returns, and special orders, following proper procedures for all transactions.
  • Ensure company packaging standards are upheld and implement special touches like gift wrapping and thank-you notes.
  • Maintain a member database with retail-specific information for personal buying.
  • Develop and implement retail SOPs unique to club operations using DLC standards.
  • Recruit and train retail staff.
  • Oversee scheduling of retail staff to ensure adequate shop floor coverage.
  • Provide continuous product knowledge and customer service training.
  • Develop and implement staff incentives for quality work and meeting sales parameters.
  • Identify and develop Managers in Training.
  • Assist with any other duties as assigned by Director of Golf/Head Professional.
  • Assist golf and events staff with various projects and tournament preparation.
  • Plan, source, and purchase marketing swag.
  • Assist with uniforms, special orders, and other miscellaneous retail/swag requests.
  • Assist with new property and store opening startup tasks.
  • Support marketing teams to manage inventory and purchasing for swag.
  • Facilitate swag purchases including vendor communications, new account setup, logo instructions, purchase orders, and order tracking.
  • Ensure swag purchases are within the provided budget.
  • Collaborate with the Regional Director of Retail on custom product development for marketing swag.
  • Support implementation and compliance with companywide corporate initiatives.
  • Oversee monthly physical inventories for swag.
  • Monitor inventory levels and fill in as needed to maintain proper stock of key items.
