About The Position

The Area Project Manager coordinates and executes refinery projects using the Project Identification, Planning and Execution (PIPE) stage gate process. The role manages a portfolio of concurrent projects in different phases, including project development, construction work-package creation, and construction and start-up support. It participates in the assigned Operations Area Team, providing discipline-specific technical assistance and helping colleagues develop, solve technical and operational problems, analyze refinery systems and economics, and make data-informed operating decisions. The position coordinates engineering contractors and project deliverables to support timely, cost-effective, quality-controlled completion. It reviews Management of Change requirements and engineering drawings for safety, operability, maintainability, compliance with HF Sinclair standards, and alignment with project objectives. The role conducts field walkdowns and constructability reviews, provides technical support during construction, monitors progress and project risks, prepares decision packages for phase approvals, and presents progress and project decisions to the Refinery Leadership Team. It also researches developments in its assigned discipline. Depending on assignment, duties may include coordinating Process Hazard Analyses and incident investigations; supporting process-safety audits, Layers of Protection Analysis reviews, and action-item development; updating the Refinery Risk Management Program; recommending or implementing operational and equipment improvements; and liaising with county, state, or other agencies. The employee may supervise personnel and contractors and may receive other assignments from their supervisor. The work is office- and plant-based, with up to 10% travel. The role may involve varying weather and outdoor work in all temperatures, as well as wearing personal protective equipment and, in emergencies, a respirator. HF Sinclair describes its culture as grounded in Safety, Integrity, Teamwork, Ownership, and Inclusion.
