About The Position

The Area MRF Manager oversees Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) across North Carolina, Virginia, and Georgia, with accountability for safe operations, regulatory compliance, staff leadership, cost control, and performance across all assigned sites.

Requirements

  • Five or more years of experience in recycling operations, waste management, or industrial facility management, required.
  • Working knowledge of MRF operations, recycling processes, and sorting systems.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and conflict management skills.
  • Ability to analyze data, optimize processes, and solve operational problems independently.
  • Solid understanding of environmental regulations and safety standards.
  • Must have a valid driver license.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) for the duration of floor time.
  • Ability to climb stairs and access elevated platforms for inspections and audits.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, business administration, environmental science, or a related field preferred; not required with equivalent experience.
  • Experience managing multiple facilities or large teams, strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations across multiple MRFs, including receiving, sorting, processing, and shipping of recyclable materials.
  • Manage site operations (scale house, sorting lines, loading areas) to control handling and operating costs.
  • Monitor production KPIs, including throughput, recovery rate, contamination level, and truck turnaround time.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to raise efficiency and material recovery.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, state and local regulations, and company safety standards.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and meetings.
  • Build and maintain a strong safety culture across all facilities.
  • Manage supervisors and frontline employees across all facilities.
  • Own hiring, coaching, training, performance evaluation, and disciplinary action.
  • Develop staff through mentorship and structured professional development.
  • Coordinate maintenance activity to minimize downtime and keep equipment performing to spec.
  • Oversee preventive maintenance programs and enforce facility cleanliness and equipment safety standards.
  • Prepare and manage budgets, analyze financial performance, and support capital planning.
  • Develop operational strategies that improve profitability, reduce cost, and increase diversion rates.
  • Review and approve operational reports, production data, and compliance documentation.
  • Complete required compliance and production paperwork on schedule; specific reporting cadence and systems to be confirmed with corporate operations.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with local communities, municipalities, and customers.
  • Resolve customer concerns related to quality, contamination, and service.
  • Build long-term client relationships through consistent, practical account management.
