About The Position

The Area Manager – Olympics and Coast at Girl Scouts of Western Washington (GSWW) leads membership growth, volunteer support, and community engagement within the communities of Clallam, Jefferson, and Mason Counties. This role is responsible for recruiting and retaining girls and volunteers, building strong community partnerships, and serving as the primary support partner for volunteers through coaching, problem-solving, and connection to council tools and resources. The Area Manager works across teams to deliver responsive service, strengthen the volunteer experience, and help create inclusive, welcoming opportunities for girls and families. This is a regular, full-time (40 hours per week), non-exempt hybrid role that requires residency in Washington State, preferably within the communities of focus that it serves. Ideal candidates would live in or near Shelton, Quilcene, Port Townsend, or Port Angeles. Some work may be conducted remotely, but successful candidates must be willing and able to travel regularly and work from GSWW offices, community locations, and other worksites as needed or requested. While the full pay range is $31.85 to $35.83, this position will start at $31.85 per hour for purposes of internal pay equity.

  • Ability to use technology and navigate systems such as Salesforce, Microsoft 365, engagement platforms such as Rallyhood, and other volunteer support tools effectively
  • Three years of relevant experience.
  • Experience working in a customer-focused environment and using conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques.
  • Equivalent combination of related experience and education.
  • Must reside within Washington State, with preference for residence within or near assigned geographic area.
  • Access to reliable transportation and the ability to fulfill travel requirements across widespread regional geography as necessary.
  • Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends in support of volunteer activities, events, trainings, and community engagement efforts.
  • Satisfactory results from criminal background search.
  • Willingness to maintain Girl Scout membership.
  • Must be willing and able to come into a GSWW office or alternative worksite as needed or when requested.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting volunteers, membership programs, community engagement, outreach, or recruitment initiatives.
  • Education in communications, psychology, education, or other relevant field.
  • Additional training or certification in conflict management or mediation.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements year-round strategies to recruit, retain, and engage girls and volunteers based on community needs, demographic data, and membership trends within assigned service areas.
  • Leads local membership growth efforts that support sustainable participation, volunteer engagement, and long-term troop success.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with schools, community organizations, businesses, and local leaders to expand awareness of Girl Scouts and increase community-based opportunities for girls.
  • Travels regularly within assigned geographic area to support volunteers, recruitment efforts, and community engagement activities.
  • Recruits, onboards, coaches, and supports volunteers to strengthen leadership capacity and geographic support structures.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for volunteers within assigned areas, providing guidance, clear communication, and timely connection to Council resources, tools, and services.
  • Supports troop leaders through coaching, reinforcement of training, troop management guidance, and ongoing use of tools and processes such as the Volunteer Toolkit and troop finance practices.
  • Provides responsive problem-solving, mediation, and conflict-resolution support, escalating concerns appropriately when needed.
  • Delivers high-quality customer service by researching requests, using technology effectively, and providing reliable follow-up to volunteers, families, and community partners.
  • Collaborates across departments to support council initiatives, volunteer development opportunities, and a consistent member and volunteer experience.
  • Maintains accurate records and follows internal processes related to membership, volunteer onboarding, troop support, service delivery, and approved materials usage.
  • Integrates diversity, equity, inclusion, and access into daily work to foster welcoming and inclusive environments for girls, volunteers, families, and communities.
  • Maintains current knowledge of GSUSA resources, Council practices, and relevant professional development to support effective service delivery.
