About The Position

The Area Manager is responsible for leading a manufacturing area or department within a defined business unit. This role operates at both a strategic and operational level, owning performance across safety, quality, delivery, cost, and people. The Area Manager leads supervisors and frontline teams, drives continuous improvement, ensures operational excellence, and aligns area performance with company-wide objectives. This specific area leads mechanical assembly and lead operations for High CT (AEG) X-ray source product lines, including LMB and MBX platforms. This area supports the production of low-volume, high-mix, highly complex medical imaging components, requiring precision assembly, advanced process control, and strict adherence to regulatory requirements. This operation is critical to delivering high-performance CT products to global OEM partners and involves complex integration, specialized materials (including lead handling), and close alignment with engineering and quality organizations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of operations or manufacturing leadership experience
  • Experience leading teams and driving operational performance
  • Strong experience in precision mechanical assembly of complex electro-mechanical systems, ideally within CT or high-performance imaging products
  • Experience in high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environments with high product variability
  • Demonstrated experience with Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement in assembly operations
  • Demonstrated experience with root cause analysis and corrective action (RCA/CAPA)
  • Demonstrated experience with process standardization, documentation, and training development
  • Demonstrated experience with production systems (MES, SAP, or equivalent)
  • Experience supporting NPI and scaling of technically complex products into production
  • Familiarity with regulated manufacturing environments (GMP, QMS), including quality and compliance requirements
  • Employee must be able to meet the following requirements with or without an accommodation: Sedentary to heavy work that will occasionally 1-33% require employee to lift/move up to 40 lbs.
  • Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or moving heavy equipment and/or supplies occasionally 1-33%.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred familiarity with High voltage / high vacuum systems
  • Preferred familiarity with Controlled material handling (e.g., lead or regulated substances)
  • Experience supporting CT or high-performance medical imaging product lines
  • Background in regulated manufacturing environments (medical device preferred)
  • Lean / Six Sigma certification with demonstrated success in complex assembly environments

Responsibilities

  • Own area-wide performance across key metrics (safety, quality, delivery, cost, and productivity)
  • Establish and execute goals aligned with business and operational objectives
  • Monitor KPIs and drive performance through data-driven decision-making
  • Lead capacity planning and resource alignment to meet changing demand
  • Ensure efficient and compliant operation of production processes
  • Oversee workforce planning, labor utilization, and material flow
  • Ensure equipment readiness, capacity, and risk mitigation planning
  • Drive problem-solving for operational challenges and escalations
  • Lead, coach, and develop supervisors and frontline employees
  • Build team capability through training, cross-training, and succession planning
  • Establish clear expectations and accountability for performance and behaviors
  • Partner with HR on workforce planning, engagement, and employee relations
  • Champion Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Lead or sponsor Kaizen events and process improvement projects
  • Identify waste, constraints, and inefficiencies to improve flow and productivity
  • Ensure improvements are sustained and standardized
  • Partner with engineering, quality, maintenance, and other business units
  • Align production execution with customer demand and business priorities
  • Support new product introduction and process changes
  • Ensure adherence to safety standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies
  • Promote a culture of safety, quality, and operational discipline
  • Support audit readiness, CAPA, and compliance initiatives
  • Present area performance, risks, and improvement plans to senior leadership
  • Conduct Gemba walks and maintain visibility into operations
  • Ensure alignment between strategic priorities and operational execution
  • Own end-to-end performance of AEG mechanical assembly and lead operations, including safety, quality, delivery, and productivity within a 24/7 production environment
  • Drive execution against key metrics such as on-time delivery (OTD), yield, throughput, and cost performance
  • Lead assembly of complex, high-performance CT components, ensuring precision build execution, adherence to standardized work and process controls, and product integrity in high-reliability applications
  • Oversee lead (Pb) handling and assembly processes, ensuring safe handling, compliance, and process discipline
  • Partner with supply chain, planning, and upstream production teams to ensure material availability and schedule alignment, while mitigating real-time disruptions
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering and quality teams to resolve complex product and process issues, reduce defects, warranty exposure, and COPQ, and improve manufacturability and assembly robustness
  • Lead new product introduction (NPI) efforts for High CT platforms, ensuring smooth transition from development to stable production
  • Champion Lean Manufacturing within a complex assembly environment, with focus on process standardization and documentation, line balance and workflow optimization, and reduction of rework, cycle time, and inefficiencies
  • Serve as project leader for assembly improvements, tooling enhancements, and capital investments, including business case development for equipment upgrades
  • Own planning for assembly capacity, labor strategy, and specialized tooling/equipment, ensuring readiness to meet demand
  • Ensure compliance with QMS, GMP, CAPA, and safety requirements, including those specific to material handling and regulated medical device manufacturing
  • Lead adoption and effectiveness of digital manufacturing systems (MES, SAP, traceability systems) to improve process control and data visibility
