As IDL continues to accelerate growth in Canada, the Area Manager role supports daily inbound and outbound warehouse execution, frontline leadership, and consistent achievement of safety, quality, productivity, and service targets. This job description applies to the Area Manager position in Milton, Ontario. The role is a full-time position reporting to the Operations Manager.

Requirements

Professional certificate, post-secondary education, or equivalent work experience.
Minimum 2 years of leadership, supervisory, or performance management experience preferred.
Previous experience in a warehouse, distribution centre, logistics, or 3PL environment is an asset.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to coach and motivate frontline employees.
Hands-on leadership style with regular presence on the warehouse floor.
Ability to work effectively in a KPI-driven, high-volume environment.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accountability.
Ability to work collaboratively with operations leadership and support teams.
Ability to perform physical tasks including bending, lifting, stretching, reaching, and standing for extended periods.
Flexibility to work assigned warehouse shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and peak periods as required.
Ability to work safely in a warehouse environment while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE) provided by the company.

Responsibilities

Ensure strict adherence to all site safety rules, OHSA requirements, and quality standards.
Manage day-to-day inbound and outbound operations to meet or exceed productivity, quality, and safety targets.
Oversee dock operations, receiving, stowing, and freight-flow activities to support efficient operations.
Collaborate with Team Leaders and Process Assistants to optimize operational execution and training effectiveness.
Identify operational issues and implement corrective actions to maintain service levels and compliance.
Lead structured operational communication routines, including Min 15/SQDC, and participate in higher-level meetings to review safety, quality, delivery, cost, risks, and action plans.
Plan resources, including people, MHE, devices, and related tools, per shift and per day according to management targets and productivity assumptions.
Reallocate resources across departments as required to maintain service levels and customer commitments.
Welcome and support new employees during onboarding in accordance with Ontario training and orientation requirements.
Facilitate training on identification procedures, systems, tools, equipment, and operational best practices.
Ensure new hires develop the skills and competence required for their assigned workstations.
Participate in improving training methods, tools, and materials to strengthen employee effectiveness and retention.
Train teams on new procedures, process changes, and operational updates.
Supervise, coach, and develop warehouse associates and Process Assistants while reinforcing safe work practices and performance expectations.
Observe and evaluate employee performance to identify development and improvement opportunities.
Adapt coaching and training approaches based on individual skill levels and learning styles.
Support fair and consistent application of site policies, escalating employee relations matters as required.
Conduct annual performance reviews using objective operational KPIs, safety, quality, attendance, and productivity measures.
Monitor individual and team performance throughout the shift and provide timely, constructive feedback.
Identify training gaps and performance challenges and propose appropriate action plans.
Monitor KPIs related to productivity, quality, safety, and attendance.
Analyze operational data and implement corrective actions to improve efficiency and consistency.
Identify and develop qualified backups for key operational roles to support business continuity and succession planning.
Lead root-cause analysis and promote continuous improvement, employee innovation, 5S audits, and Gemba walks.
Validate attendance and timekeeping records in accordance with company payroll procedures.
Escalate operational, customer, HR, system, quality, and safety risks beyond delegated authority while implementing immediate containment actions.
Reinforce ID Logistics culture, operational standards, and QHSE compliance through visible floor leadership.
Perform additional duties as required to meet operational needs.
