About The Position

The Area Manager – Transportation Service Shop leads maintenance operations supporting Walmart’s private fleet and the delivery of goods to stores. The role oversees technicians in a fast-paced, 24/7 service shop environment and is responsible for safety, quality, compliance, and operational excellence. Walmart Transportation Service Shops provide preventive maintenance and repairs for tractors, trailers, and equipment to support fleet reliability and dependable deliveries. The Area Manager implements the business plan for the area, manages staffing and workloads, leads maintenance programs, reviews operational and financial performance, and takes corrective action to address losses and inefficiencies. The role also trains, supervises, develops, and engages associates, promotes open communication, and reinforces Walmart’s safety standards and zero-loss mindset.

Requirements

Meet one of the following minimum qualification pathways: an associate’s degree in Business, Logistics, or a related field and one year of supervisory experience; a bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics, or a related field; one year of Walmart Refurb/Service Shop or Walmart Logistics management experience; three years of service shop technician experience; or an industrial technical certification (such as ASE, Air Conditioning, DOT Brake, or DOT Preventative Maintenance) and one year of supervisory experience in heavy-duty truck and trailer maintenance.
Strong leadership skills and the ability to motivate, develop, and hold teams accountable.
Working knowledge of service shop operations, maintenance processes, and safety standards.
Experience managing staffing, workloads, and productivity in a fast-paced environment.
Financial and analytical skills to manage budgets and interpret business reports.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
Problem-solving skills and a continuous improvement mindset.
Effective communication skills for engaging associates and cross-functional partners.

Responsibilities

Lead daily service shop operations with a focus on safety, quality, and compliance.
Implement the area business plan by setting goals, managing staffing and schedules, assigning work, and coordinating workloads to meet performance targets.
Lead preventive maintenance programs for tractors, trailers, and shop equipment to ensure fleet readiness.
Prepare, review, and analyze operational and financial reports to monitor productivity and manage expenses.
Monitor performance metrics, identify losses or inefficiencies, and implement corrective actions.
Ensure associates are trained on maintenance procedures, safety standards, and company policies.
Hire, coach, provide performance feedback to, develop, and engage associates.
Promote two-way communication and address associate concerns in partnership with leaders and support teams.
Champion safety, reinforce Walmart’s zero-loss mindset, and lead by example.
