About The Position

The Area Manager II is responsible for leading, planning, and executing all functions of designated glass-manufacturing production. This role ensures the safety of all employees through training and enforcement of safety guidelines, maintains product quality to meet customer specifications, and strives to meet or exceed production standards for throughput, downtime, yield, and scrap reduction. The Area Manager II also conducts process and product audits, manages equipment maintenance, and leads changeovers. Effective communication with employees at all levels, troubleshooting manufacturing problems, and providing support for continuous improvement initiatives are key aspects of this position. Additionally, the role involves checking inventories, planning production needs, ensuring proper shift handovers, coordinating housekeeping duties, auditing time records, and administering progressive discipline in a union environment. The Area Manager II must adhere to NSG/Pilkington Standards of Business Conduct and its Values and Principles.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in manufacturing.
  • Strong organization and prioritization skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Proven ability to adapt communication style to interact with diverse groups.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience successfully managing people in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated strengths in results orientation, adaptability, standards discipline, employee development, influence, and communication.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Lead, plan and execute all functions of designated glass-manufacturing production.
  • Ensure the safety of all assigned employees through training and enforcement of all federal, state and company safety guidelines.
  • Support safety, health, and environmental rules and lead by example.
  • Ensure product quality meets internal and external customer specifications.
  • Ensure all production standards and targets for thru put, downtime, yield and scrap reduction meet or exceed budgeted levels.
  • Maintain and operate equipment following procedures and best practices as defined in the control plan.
  • Conduct process and product audits according to the work instructions.
  • Lead change-over following proper set-up procedure according to work instructions.
  • Turn around any set asides and hold activity in a timely manner.
  • Communicate effectively with employees at all levels to ensure matters of mutual concern are addressed and resolved.
  • Troubleshooting and problem solving of manufacturing problems in the operations.
  • Provide support to the Supervisors, employees and Process improves in pursuit of continuous improvement.
  • Fulfill assignments/tasks given by Production Manager.
  • Actively participate in area problem solving teams and other groups as necessary to achieve production goals.
  • Check inventories and schedule.
  • Plans and communicates production needs to the team leaders to ensure all production requirements are met and insure a good pass down before each shift.
  • Troubleshooting / problem solving manufacturing problems in the CBG / Furnace operations.
  • Ensure employees are provided training and guidance/direction to team members according to procedures and best practices to achieve short and long-term goals.
  • Coordinate 5S and housekeeping duties to maintain high standard of facility cleanliness.
  • Audit employee time records using Kronos and correct, as needed.
  • Administer progressive discipline as needed in compliance with the facility work rules and labor agreement.
  • Adherence to NSG/Pilkington Standards of Business Conduct and its Values and Principles.
  • Other duties as assigned by manager.
