About The Position

This role leads, plans, and executes all maintenance functions for a designated glass-manufacturing production area. The Area Manager II is responsible for ensuring the safety of all assigned employees through training and strict enforcement of safety guidelines, leading by example in upholding safety, health, and environmental rules. This position ensures product quality meets customer specifications and that production standards for throughput, downtime, yield, and scrap reduction meet or exceed budgeted levels. The role involves maintaining and operating equipment according to control plan procedures, conducting process and product audits, and leading change-overs efficiently. Effective communication with employees at all levels is crucial for addressing and resolving concerns. The Area Manager II provides support for troubleshooting and problem-solving manufacturing issues, assists supervisors and employees in continuous improvement efforts, and fulfills assignments from the Maintenance Manager. Active participation in problem-solving teams and other groups is expected to achieve production goals. This role also involves checking inventories, scheduling, communicating production needs, and ensuring smooth shift handovers. Specific responsibilities include troubleshooting manufacturing problems in CBG/Furnace operations, providing training and guidance to team members, coordinating 5S and housekeeping duties, auditing and correcting employee time records in Kronos, and administering progressive discipline in compliance with facility rules and labor agreements. Adherence to NSG/Pilkington Standards of Business Conduct and its Values and Principles is mandatory. The position manages a team of 2 Direct Salary and 30-40 Indirect Hourly Team Members in a Union Environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in Engineering.
  • Strong organization and prioritization skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Proven ability to adapt communication style to interact with diverse groups.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience successfully managing people in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated strengths in results orientation, adaptability, standards discipline, employee development, influence, and communication.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, plan and execute all maintenance functions of designated glass-manufacturing production.
  • Ensure the safety of all assigned employees through training and enforcement of all federal, state and company safety guidelines.
  • Support safety, health, and environmental rules and lead by example.
  • Ensure product quality meets internal and external customer specifications.
  • Ensure all production standards and targets for thru put, downtime, yield and scrap reduction meet or exceed budgeted levels.
  • Maintain and operate equipment following procedures and best practices as defined in the control plan.
  • Conduct process and product audits according to the work instructions.
  • Lead change-over following proper set-up procedure according to work instructions.
  • Turn around any set asides and hold activity in a timely manner.
  • Communicate effectively with employees at all levels to ensure matters of mutual concern are addressed and resolved.
  • Troubleshooting and problem solving of manufacturing problems in the operations.
  • Provide support to the Supervisors, employees and Process improves in pursuit of continuous improvement.
  • Fulfill assignments/tasks given by Maintenance Manager.
  • Actively participate in area problem solving teams and other groups as necessary to achieve production goals.
  • Check inventories and schedule.
  • Plans and communicates production needs to the team leaders to ensure all production requirements are met and insure a good pass down before each shift.
  • Troubleshooting / problem solving manufacturing problems in the CBG / Furnace operations.
  • Ensure employees are provided training and guidance/direction to team members according to procedures and best practices to achieve short and long-term goals.
  • Coordinate 5S and housekeeping duties to maintain high standard of facility cleanliness.
  • Audit employee time records using Kronos and correct, as needed.
  • Administer progressive discipline as needed in compliance with the facility work rules and labor agreement.
  • Adherence to NSG/Pilkington Standards of Business Conduct and its Values and Principles.
  • Other duties as assigned by manager.
