About The Position

TRC is seeking an Area Manager for Environmental Permitting to serve the Planning Permitting and Licensing business practice. This position will oversee the Pennsylvania Area (Pittsburgh, Scranton, and Philadelphia) offices, managing a diverse team of professionals including biologists, environmental scientists, archaeologists, planners, wetlands specialists, civil engineers, and project managers. The role involves regional growth, leadership, and operational oversight, client outreach, and directing major project pursuits and general marketing. The Area Manager will be responsible for managing the regional Profit & Loss (P&L), optimizing operations for profitability, and ensuring project quality and profitability. This role also includes managing and developing the skill sets of Local Area Leaders and other employees to ensure efficient and technically excellent project execution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or related fields.
  • 10 to 15 years of experience performing and managing the planning permitting, compliance, and engineering studies for environmental / transportation / oil & gas / energy projects.
  • Operational leader skills.
  • Proven track record with business development, business management and oversight of regional businesses.
  • Experience managing cross disciplinary scientific and engineering teams and front-end project development projects.
  • Strong business acumen and attributes, coupled with a commitment to TRC Values: Safety, Quality, Integrity, Creativity, Accountability, Teamwork and Passion.

Nice To Haves

  • Masters Degree preferred.
  • 15 to 20 years of experience.
  • Expertise in utility, conventional and renewable energy, transportation and oil and gas sectors.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee a regional practice and interface/collaborate with other area managers and TRC’s Regional and National Practice Leaders.
  • Be responsible for ongoing regional growth, leadership and operation of TRC’s Planning, Permitting and Licensing business by performing client outreach and by providing direction on major project pursuits and general marketing.
  • Be responsible for managing a regional P&L and fine-tuning operations to achieve profitable performance.
  • Have a significant role in maintaining quality and profitability on TRC’s projects.
  • Assist with managing and developing the skill sets of Local Area Leaders and other employees and resources to ensure our projects are executed with a high level of efficiency and technical excellence.
  • Possess strong verbal, written, presentation and excellent client management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability leading and managing complex projects.
  • Be goal oriented, quality focused, and have demonstrated success with creating and fostering a team environment.
