About The Position

A long-established residential framing contractor working for California's high-volume homebuilders is seeking an Area Manager for direct hire. This role involves managing framing production across a portfolio of active subdivisions in the Sacramento region and the Central Valley, encompassing both residential and multifamily projects. The Area Manager will be responsible for schedule, manpower, cost, and quality across multiple jobs simultaneously. This is a leadership position reporting directly to the company principal, offering significant ownership and autonomy.

Requirements

  • Multi-subdivision responsibility in homebuilding, managing a portfolio of communities concurrently.
  • Background from either a production homebuilder or a competing framing contractor, with responsibility for framing production.
  • Leadership and management experience with superintendents and foremen reporting to them, including hiring and performance management.
  • Experience with both residential and multifamily projects.
  • Ability to read framing plans, truss layouts, shear and hold-down schedules.
  • Valid California driver's license, clean driving record, and U.S. work authorization.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual English and Spanish.
  • Production homebuilder experience (tract and subdivision), rather than custom or commercial.
  • Familiarity with builder scheduling platforms (BuildPro, Hyphen, Procore) and Bluebeam.

Responsibilities

  • Manage framing production across a portfolio of concurrent subdivisions, residential and multifamily, ensuring starts and completions align with builder release schedules.
  • Lead and manage the field leadership team, including hiring, developing, and holding superintendents, foremen, and lead framers accountable.
  • Develop and execute manpower strategies across the portfolio, reassigning crews between communities based on builder releases and weather conditions.
  • Ensure schedule commitments made to each builder are met.
  • Oversee labor costs and production performance against budget, per plan and per unit.
  • Maintain quality and code compliance standards across all jobs through field leaders.
  • Plan lumber and material package staging against the schedule.
  • Enforce the safety program and OSHA compliance on every site, every day.
