About The Position

This is a full-time, exempt level position. The Area Health & Safety (H&S) Manager will report to the H&S Director of Corn & Oilseeds and is responsible for providing safety leadership and support to Oilseeds facilities operating in their assigned areas. Preferred location is in the Decatur, IL area but may be based at an ADM Oilseeds facility in the midwestern US if needed. Additional travel will be required if this role is not based in Decatur, IL.

Requirements

  • Prior work experience in a dedicated health and safety position in an industrial environment or a degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health & Safety or related area.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, including public presentation capability.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and the ability to quickly learn and utilize other standardized systems.
  • Proven ability to work effectively and enthusiastically on a team.
  • Proven ability to recognize hazards, assess risk and recommend controls.
  • Willingness to travel to multiple locations with flexible hours, occasionally outside of normal business (day shift) hours to accommodate plant needs, training, inspections.
  • The Area HS Manager may be contacted for after hour emergencies.
  • The position requires the ability to work at an ADM facility during times of no travel.
  • The position requires the ability to work in a variety of environments: office environment and varying indoor and outdoor environments including extreme heat and cold.
  • The position requires the ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods as well as climb stairs/ladders, perform work at heights, and wear a respirator when required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred, waivable with extraordinary experience.
  • Minimum ten (10) years of relevant industrial experience leading and managing safety programs and direct reports is preferred.
  • Safety certifications including Associate Safety Professional or Certified Safety Professional preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as liaison to support the vision of Health and Safety working closely with Plant Management to successfully achieve health and safety action plans by utilizing their high emotional intelligence and safety knowledge to build strong relationship and foster a positive safety culture.
  • Provide consistent leadership, guidance, mentoring, and training, including public presentations when necessary.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of health and safety programs and policies through consistent monitoring and auditing.
  • Knowledge and understanding of a multitude of health and safety regulations and policies, including case management and workers compensation with the ability to communicate the requirements effectively and assist the facility with implementation and management.
  • Manage the H&S Program within all elements of the H&S Management System including Sphera Modules, Policy Tech, Coursemill, etc.
  • Analyze available data to determine action plans to address safety losses to improve performance.
  • Provide leadership and accountability for safety reporting requirements for all elements of the Health and Safety Management System.
  • Act as a Champion and Mentor for colleague safety engagement that comes in many forms including Values (behavioral) Based Safety, Human & Organizational Performance.
  • Lead or have integral involvement in incident investigations, including Apollo RCA facilitator certification, Easy RCA competency, and Why-Why facilitation experience.
