About The Position

HDR is seeking an Area Electrical Business Class Lead to manage a team of engineers and designers experienced in complex architectural engineering projects across various market sectors including Healthcare, Education, Science, Justice, and Technology. This role is based in our Building Engineering Services Design Center in Minneapolis, MN. The Building Engineering Services Design Center is a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary team comprising mechanical, electrical, structural, and civil engineers, co-located with our Architecture Practice to ensure a collaborative and integrated design process. In this leadership position, you will be responsible for establishing client relationships, marketing, and client development, while also managing the technical and operational aspects of the electrical discipline. You will oversee project budgets and scopes, schedule and coordinate work, set priorities, and monitor scope changes. Additionally, you will facilitate interdisciplinary coordination, participate in hiring and mentoring new staff, conduct performance reviews, and lead section meetings focused on productivity, workload, and quality control. A key aspect of this role involves advancing team skills through training and education, and coordinating with electrical discipline managers at other HDR locations to manage workload, project status, and staffing. You will also be responsible for preparing and reviewing electrical engineering scopes of work and proposal budgets, staying updated on industry codes and standards, implementing design standards, and performing quality control reviews. The role may also involve serving as a Project Manager or Task Lead and performing project engineer duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field
  • 10 years of experience
  • Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values
  • Maintains a professional or engineering registration and has related technical experience
  • Experienced in development and management of diverse teams
  • Works cooperatively with other area business class leaders, operations managers, technical directors and marketing managers on business class efforts

Responsibilities

  • Establish client relations and be involved with marketing and client development activities.
  • Manage the technical and operational activities of the electrical discipline.
  • Prepare/review project budgets and scopes for the electrical discipline and track budget status.
  • Schedule and coordinate all work performed inside the discipline.
  • Establish work priorities and project assignments for staff.
  • Monitor scope of work and scope changes.
  • Facilitate and encourage coordination with other discipline groups.
  • Conduct interviews in support of the hiring of new staff for the section and provide new employee mentoring.
  • Establish employee goals and conduct employee performance reviews.
  • Schedule and conduct section meetings to discuss productivity, workload and quality control issues.
  • Advance the skill level of personnel through training, education, experience, etc.
  • Coordinate with the electrical discipline managers of other business group locations to review workload, project status, and staffing requirements.
  • Prepare/review electrical engineering scope of work and budgets/estimates for proposals.
  • Monitor changes in codes, regulations and client standards and keep staff up to date on current industry practices.
  • Implement any required changes into the electrical design standards, procedures, and deliverables.
  • Perform quality control reviews.
  • Serve as a Project Manager occasionally and/or Task Lead when applicable.
  • Perform project engineer duties when required.
