About The Position

This employee will have plant responsibilities for Health, Safety, Environmental, and Risk Management matters and affairs. Conducts inspection of plant and equipment to identify, evaluate, and control hazards or conditions that might cause accidents, environmental incidents, or violate Occupational Safety, Health, and Environmental Regulations. Serves as EHS leader for advancing the Plant EHS Program and preventing plant injuries and environmental incidents.

Requirements

  • Education: A bachelor’s degree in environmental science/science discipline, industrial hygiene, chemistry, or a related field is required.
  • Certification: Minimum 1-5 years of relevant experience required; 3 years preferred.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using while numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Other Skills and Abilities: Must be computer literate and able to work with programs such as Word, Excel, etc., and be able to learn and use HP programs such as e-mail, ERP system, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Leads corporate-driven EHS program using a Hands-on-on-the-floor approach.
  • Promotes a culture of safety and environmental responsibility through awareness campaigns, employee engagement initiatives, and leadership support.
  • Monitors Plant KPIs and EHS costs and leads the charge to continuously improve EHS KPIs and lower EHS costs (waste, accidents, etc.); Utilizes data analytics and reporting tools to track EHS performance metrics and provides actionable insights to senior management.
  • Investigates accidents, near misses, and environmental incidents in the plant in a timely manner and helps plant management develop corrective and preventive actions.
  • Implements and monitors EHS procedures and policies and seeks improvements to control safety and environmental hazards. (Lockout, Hazardous Communication, PPE, Hearing, SPPC, Storm Water Plans as examples)
  • Report and manage workman's compensation claims with insurance companies.
  • Represents management at Company Safety Meetings along with the other plant personnel. Serves as liaison between management and production and maintenance employees in the daily administration of the Safety Program.
  • Performs Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) on machinery, equipment, operations, and plant areas, looking for hazards and recommends actions to correct/eliminate conditions that could create hazards to employees or violate OSHA Standards.
  • Develops and implements emergency response plans, conducts drills, and evaluates the effectiveness of emergency preparedness measures.
  • Performs monthly housekeeping and safety inspections and compiles applicable reports.
  • Coordinates the correction of potential OSHA safety violations with managers/supervisors, plant engineering, & maintenance personnel.
  • Regularly reviews and implements updates to policies and procedures to ensure compliance with evolving OSHA, EPA, and other relevant regulations.
  • Accompany OSHA and EPA compliance officers with the plant manager or their representative during plant inspections.
  • Prepares, schedules, and conducts training classes for hourly and supervisory employees on all aspects of EHS training in the plant.
  • Collaborates with engineering, production, and maintenance teams to integrate EHS considerations into design, processes, and operations.
  • Creates and tracks corrective and preventative action plans/projects to standardize, improve, monitor, and maintain safety and environmental results.
  • Maintains all EHS and EHS Training records in accordance with ISO 9002/IATF 16949 requirements.
  • Orders EHS supplies, materials, signs, banners, posters, etc., with the plant manager's approval.
  • Performs environmental, safety, and hygiene tests, audits, and required reporting.
  • Performs additional safety duties as directed by his/her manager to manage the Plant EHS Program effectively.
  • The incumbent is expected to understand that all employees have a shared responsibility for the quality of products and related services provided to our customers. Duties and responsibilities are to be carried out in accordance with the PTC Quality Management System and its policies, procedures, and work instructions as applicable to the job or function being performed.
