About The Position

The Area Director of Sales is responsible for directing the workflow of the sales organization to achieve departmental and hotel performance goals. This role involves collaborating with the sales team to ensure coordinated sales efforts, providing sales leadership and insight on the group and transient RFP process, and managing relationships with key internal and external stakeholders. The position also includes conducting performance evaluations, resolving problems, ensuring training programs are conducted regularly, and organizing Sales Department meetings. The Area Director of Sales will direct the preparation of various sales reports, conduct research on the travel industry to develop new sales strategies, and represent properties to increase market penetration and exceed revenue targets. This role requires developing and conducting persuasive sales presentations, meeting and entertaining clients (which may involve travel), and supporting the company’s service and relationship strategy to drive customer loyalty. The Area Director of Sales will also manage and support the Sales Coordinator and execute the Sales & Marketing Plan. Compliance with attendance rules and performance of any other job-related duties as assigned are also required.

Requirements

  • Proven track record of sales tactical planning and execution.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading a sales organization.
  • 3-5 years of hotel sales experience

  • May be required to work varying schedules and be able to travel

  • 3-5 years sales experience selling a hotel is required.

  • This Area Sales Director position has a requirement for business travel.

  • 4-year bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Hotel and Restaurant Management or related major preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the workflow of the sales organization to reach departmental and hotel performance goals.
  • Works collaboratively with the sales team to ensure sales efforts are coordinated and not duplicated.
  • Provide sales leadership and insight on the group and transient RFP process representing a holistic view of the needs of the hotel.
  • Manages and develops relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, resolve problems, provide open communication, and recommend discipline when appropriate.
  • Ensure training programs are conducted regularly and Company standards of performance are met.
  • Give guidance and counsel staff toward improvement.
  • Organize and/or lead scheduled Sales Department and related meetings.
  • Direct the preparation of reports pertaining to the operation of the Sales Department to include, but not limited to; the weekly and monthly Forecast, sales tactical planning, Lead Management System, Booking PACE Reporting, STR report analysis and submitting weekly reporting with commentary.
  • Coordinate ongoing research of the travel industry to detect market trends and related information for development of new direct sales strategies.
  • Make reasonable and informed recommendations to improve potential from existing and emerging markets.
  • Establish themselves as a subject matter expert; serves the property by understanding of the Market, business issues, and concerns to offer better business solutions to the operation.
  • Represent the properties to the group market segments as needed to increase market penetration and exceed revenue targets.
  • Develop and conduct persuasive verbal sales presentations to prospective clients.
  • Meet with and entertain clients some of which will require travel.
  • Establish themselves as an Alabama ambassador; serves the customer by understanding their business, business issues, and concerns to offer better business solutions.
  • Supports the company’s service and relationship strategy, driving customer loyalty by delivering service excellence throughout each customer experience.
  • Provides excellent customer service consistent with the daily service of the company.
  • Communicate both verbally and in writing to provide clear direction to the staff.
  • Works collaboratively with the Marketing team to promote initiatives.
  • Manage and support the Sales Coordinator.
  • Initiate preparation of computerized annual Sales & Marketing Plan and execute plans as outlined, critically examining and adjusting as deemed necessary by current market conditions.
  • Comply with attendance rules and be available to work on a regular basis.
  • Perform any other job-related duties as assigned.
