About The Position

The Area Director – DD/IDD Services oversees all residential programs and services across the assigned geographic region. This high-impact leadership role provides leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight to ensure high-quality services for individuals with disabilities, while supporting operational growth and developing new business opportunities. Key responsibilities include budget management, staffing, licensing, compliance, policy development, program performance, marketing, and proposal preparation. The Area Director works closely with Area Managers, Program Directors, support staff, and the state management team to drive operational excellence, strengthen leadership teams, and ensure consistency and compliance across all programs. This position focuses heavily on leadership development, operational excellence, compliance oversight, financial performance, and strategic growth initiatives to support the long-term success of residential IDD/DD services throughout the region.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Human Services field (e.g., health care, social services, education, behavioral science, or counseling).
  • Minimum of seven years' experience in the field of developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities, or mental health with progressive levels of responsibility; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
  • Must be able to meet Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professionals (QIDP) qualifications.
  • Four years’ experience as a supervisor or manager.
  • Understanding of person-centered supports, residential operations, Medicaid/SCL/Michelle P Waiver services, and compliance in accordance to the state's standards.
  • Working knowledge of federal and state regulations governing the facilities and programs for individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs and the ability to adapt to new technology platforms.
  • Valid driver’s license with a driving record that meets agency insurance requirements.
  • Ability to mentor, guide, and develop leaders while creating alignment and accountability across teams.
  • Ability to clearly convey expectations, provide feedback, and build relationships with staff, families, and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple programs, priorities, and operational demands in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to monitor budgets, operational performance, and program efficiency while maintaining quality service delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and support Program Directors across assigned residential programs, promoting accountability, collaboration, communication, and operational consistency.
  • Support recruitment, staff development, retention, and leadership growth initiatives across the region.
  • Build positive relationships with families, community partners, referral sources, and external stakeholders.
  • Represent Dungarvin throughout the community and support regional partnership and growth opportunities.
  • Oversee residential program operations to ensure compliance with state regulations, licensing requirements, Medicaid Waiver standards, HCBS expectations, and organizational policies.
  • Maintain readiness for audits, inspections, operational reviews, and escalated situations across all programs.
  • Support consistent, person-centered service delivery.
  • Monitor operational performance, staffing trends, budgets, expenses, and program performance across assigned services.
  • Partner with leadership teams to support financial health, operational stability, and long-term program success.
