About The Position

The Center for Folklore Studies (CFS) within the Humanities Institute (HI) at The Ohio State University is seeking an Archivist 2. This is a full-time, temporary position for up to 12 months and will support the work of the Ohio Humanities Project (OHP), manage the CFS archives, and assist with the HI and CFS programming as an integral member of our staff. The Archivist 2 position would be responsible for managing the CFS archives during the 2026-2027 academic year. In addition to archival support for the OHP, this work would entail digitization of archival documents, updating online representation of and access to CFS archival collections (to meet, for example, ADA accessibility mandates), and promotional work, on and beyond campus, to encourage use of archival resources. The primary task would be digitization, encompassing scanning and storage of documents, as well as grant writing to support digitization efforts, long-term maintenance and upkeep of archival materials, and the promotion of archival engagement. Digitization work is important given the increasing challenges and costs associated with managing physical storage facilities. Work will also include managing access requests for archives, including retrieval and refilling of off-site archival materials. Additionally, the Archivist 2 will coordinate with CFS faculty teaching folklore courses in the 2026-2027 academic year to facilitate student engagement with archives as part of the folklore curriculum. The Archivist 2 position will participate in weekly HI staff meetings and serve as an integral member of the HI staff, representing the OHP and CFS. This will involve participation in the development and support of HI programming (such as Humanities on Tap) and collaborative work with the CFS on joint programming (such as the Hammond lecture series on regional and North American monsters and cryptids in Fall 2026). Support at some weekday evening events may be required, generally ending by 9 p.m.
